ALLENTOWN PARKS & RECREATION OFFERS AT HOME SCHEDULING The Allentown Department of Parks and Recreation is moving to a new recreation management software system. Effective immediately, the Department will begin using MyRec.com Recreation Software to improve customer convenience and increase access to department offerings. This transition also allows for added payment methods such as credit or debit cards. ... MyRec software requires users to create an account which will enable them to register for programs, reserve pavilions or rent fields. The software provides simple step-by-step instructions on creating your account which becomes active upon recreation staff review. Applicants should allow 2-3 business days for activation. Our transition to MyRec will dramatically increase consumer accessibility to the myriad of department offerings, said Parks & Recreation Director Karen El-Chaar. The ability for consumers to register for programs or rent fields from the comfort of their own homes on their own schedules will open up opportunities for more individuals to enjoy our park amenities. To create an account please visit www.allentownparksandrec.com today. For additional information and resources, residents and visitors may contact the Parks & Recreation office at 610-437-7757 and/or follow the department on social media via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @AllentownParksandRec as well as subscribing to the new YouTube Channel, Allentown PA Parks and Recreation.

At home body weight exercise guide. You can do this in your house where you have enough space or outside. You should try to do each exercise for 30-60seconds ...completing as many rounds as possible in a 15-30minute span. Why do you think exercising or being active is important? Remember young Queens we don’t need to exercise just for basketball but any other sport or activity will require us to be in shape as well. Coach Brit chooses to exercise because it relieves stress and it is something she enjoys in her daily life. Here are some reasons why we should get active! Make physical activity a priority to: 1. Improve your memory and brain function (all age groups). 2. Protect against many chronic diseases. 3. Aid in weight management. 4. Lower blood pressure and improve heart health. 5. Improve your quality of sleep. 6. Reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. 7. Combat cancer-related fatigue. 8. Improve joint pain and stiffness. 9. Maintain muscle strength and balance. 10. Increase life span Allentown PA Parks and Recreation

In an effort to support the #AllentownArt community during COVID-19, the Allentown Art Commission implemented an artist relief program called Art of Encourageme...nt. This program sought innovative artists to produce encouraging and uplifting public art and messages to be displayed throughout the City. We’re excited to unveil Urban Nature by artist Monica Salazar! In her own words, Urban Nature is a piece dedicated to our environment and its habitat. [It’s] a reminder of the beauty of nature that depends on us. The mural is located at 722 N. 4th Street behind C-Town Grocery Store, so be sure to take a trip over to see it! Click through the pictures to see the "before" photo at the end. Trick-or-Treat Night is tomorrow, FRIDAY, October 30 from 6PM-8PM in the City of Allentown. The Allentown Health Bureau reminds residents to keep their front po...rch light on if participating and practice safety and social distancing! Leave treats outside your door instead of handing out candy to minimize interaction Make sure children take and eat only pre-packaged candy Instead of answering your door, sit outside to greet people, maintaining 6-foot social distancing Use hand sanitizer and remember to wear masks when in close proximity to others and/or in indoor spaces Children also are encouraged to limit Trick or Treat visits to their immediate neighborhood and inform family members of their planned route to aid contact tracers in the event someone should contract COVID-19. Most importantly, have fun and stay safe! #Halloween2020 #TrickOrTreat #WeAreAllentown #SomosAllentown #SafetyFirst

QUEEN OF THE COURT GOES VIRTUAL! The Allentown PA Parks and Recreation and long-time coach Brittni Kholi are gearing up for the 11th Queen of the Court basket...ball program, but it will be a little different this fall; it will be virtual. Queen of the Court is a free basketball fundamentals program offered to girls in fifth through eighth grade that live and attend school in Allentown. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fall 2020 program is going virtual with prerecorded workouts posted on social media outlets. Coach Kholi teaches life skills, confidence, teamwork, and empowering the girls through the game of basketball. This program introduces the sport to beginners and helps refine the efforts of more skilled players. The virtual program will feature prerecorded videos posted on Tuesdays and Thursdays later in the afternoon on the Queen of the Court and the Allentown Parks and Recreation Facebook pages. Girls are encouraged to access the videos with supervision by a parent/guardian after their schooling is done. The workouts can be done in the home, backyard, or a local park. Guest speakers may be featured throughout the virtual program.
