Bethlehem Historic Rose Garden at the Rose Garden Park

Reminder: Winter Pruning! Bethlehem Rose Garden Saturday, March 6, 2021... 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM The snow is melting and the ground is finally visible! Join us in the rose garden to prune the roses in the outer rings - there's lots to do, so we need as many helpers as possible! Please bring tools if you have them (pruning shears, gloves, loppers, etc.), but we will have extras on hand for those that need them!

Over the next several months, we will introduce some of the new roses being planted in the garden. First up is Caldwell Pink. Caldwell PInk is thought to be an old rose from the 1800's and found by Dr. Bill Welch near Caldwell, Texas in the 1980’s. Flushes of small, carnation-like, lilac-pink flowers cover this plant from mid-spring to frost. A relatively small shrub rose, it is well suited for planting in drifts. Caldwell Pink has been designated an Earth-Kind rose by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension for superior performance and pest resistance. Dear Neighbors, MANA is sponsoring a fundraiser for the historic Bethlehem Rose Garden (the BRG @ the BRG park). We recently received a Lehigh County grant that allowed us to fund both a plan for the park’s restoration and the initial purchases of roses and perennials (some native species) for the central quadrant of the garden. A special event will be held on June 26th celebrating the 90th anniversary of this very special rose garden and the history of the West Side of Beth...lehem Our Lehigh County grant enabled a great start but much remains to be done before our 90th anniversary celebration. You can play a part in this celebration by donating $45 for the remaining plants (roses, native species, perennials) needed to complete the restoration.
