Ash Wednesday is on February 17th, 2021. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten period leading up to Easter. We are excited to begin our Lenten journey together. All Ash Wednesday Liturgies will take place in the Bruckmann Memorial Chapel of Saint Joseph. Here is the schedule for the day. Each Liturgy will take approximately 10 minutes. After you receive your ashes, the Liturgy is concluded, and you may leave the chapel. ... Given the challenges that COVID-19 presents, ashes will be sprinkled over the individual head and not placed on the forehead. For more information on the guidelines for the distribution of ashes set by the Arch Diocese of Philadelphia, visit http://archphila.org//up/2021/01/Ash-Wednesday-1-25-21.pdf To prevent the spread of COVID-19 on campus, Cabrini is following the CDC’s recommendations to stay six feet from others. Once you enter the chapel, please use the hand sanitizer provided, remain standing and practice social distancing. You are required to wear a mask upon entry and to have it on during the entire liturgy. If you have any questions, please contact Fr. David Driesch, O.Praem ([email protected]). or Mr. Guilherme G Lopes ([email protected]).

Saint Blaise was the bishop of Sebaste in Armenia. When the emperor Diocletian waged his cruel persecution against the Christians, the saint hid himself in a c...ave on Mount Argeus, and there he remained some time concealed, but was at length discovered by some soldiers of the governor Agricolaus, while they were hunting. They led him to the governor, who gave orders that he should be put into prison. During his imprisonment, many sick people, attracted by the reputation of his sanctity, came to him, and he healed them. Among these was a boy, whose life was despaired of by the physicians, on account of his having swallowed a bone, which could not be extracted from his throat. The saint was twice brought before the governor, but neither fair promises nor threats could induce him to offer sacrifice to the gods. Whereupon, he was first beaten with rods, and then his flesh was torn with iron hooks while he lay stretched on the rack. At length he was beheaded, and nobly gave testimony to the faith of Christ our Lord, on February 3. (Text taken from The Liturgical Year by Dom Prosper Gueranger)
