Kahn’s involvement of Group ’55 offers a window into both Kahn’s and the larger group’s respective understandings of what it meant to be modern within the arts. Beginning with an outline of Kahn’s educational and visual arts background, this talk illuminates how Kahn developed distinctive ideas about the purpose and importance of art that he brought to Group ’55 in the form of a series of speeches given at group events. Those ideas reveal new dimensions to Kahn’s thinking and challenge long-held assumptions about the meaning of his buildings. This event will be offered through Zoom and registration is required. Who's ready for frightfully good Halloween fun? The Stagecrafters TheaterHalloween Scary Stories will be presented for the18th consecutive year! This year’s show will be virtual and streamed on YouTube, Facebook, and The Stagecrafters website beginning October 24.... The Amazing Dr. Magic, Jeff Ragan, will host the program and perform his usual astounding feats of wizardry. The rest of the cast of Stagecrafters actors, under the guidance of Catherine Pappas and Jane Toczek, will bring the scary stories to life. One of the stories, The Girl Who Stood in First Position was written by local Chestnut Hill author Tom Turner. The video was created by Stagecrafters lighting designer Gil Todd. Halloween Scary Stories will also be projected outside on The Stagecrafters’ barn facing Germantown Avenue (across Laurel Hill Gardens, next to Bredenbeck's). The showings will be on October 23, 24, 30, and 31 at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9 p.m., weather permitting. The ever-popular costume contest will continue virtually as well. Parents are encouraged to submit photos of their children via email and include the child’s first name and the name of his/her costume. Photos should be submitted to [email protected].
