There is a terrible misunderstanding among many small business owners that marketing is just about getting attention. If you get someone's attention, you need to deliver value and gain trust. Annoying people in order to get their attention is a bad game plan. #smallbusinessmarketing #buildtrust #marketing

A huge amount of your workday is wasted changing from one task to the next. Every time you start a new task, it takes time and energy to break the inertia to get those creative juices flowing. The less time you burn jumping in and out of tasks, the more attention you have available for deep, important work. So whenever possible, I try to batch tasks along with other similar tasks. If I have a big project to work on this week, I'd rather have two uninterrupted 4-hours chunks... than a bunch of smaller chunks scattered around every day of the week. And yes, I recently read Cal Newport's Deep Work and am #firedup. #productivitytips #deepwork #creativeflow

I've worked at a lot of nonprofits over the years and there's a common challenge most of them face: needing to appease funders while also serving their beneficiaries. For some organizations, these two groups are closely aligned, but for the majority, there is some notable discrepancy between these two groups. How you manage that gap may be one of the most important decisions you make in keeping your organization viable in the long run. Let's talk about how that can be done with integrity. #nonprofits #nonprofitmarketing #fundraising

Aww heck yeah. This mask arrived the mail yesterday from my dear friends/clients over at @providence_ac and I’m pumped. They launched these on their e-commerce store last week and the huge response briefly blew up the site due to some unfortunately timed server glitches. We got it back up eventually and they were awesomely patient the whole way through. Then sent me this lovely mask and card, which made my day. Now staying safe in style #idealclient #facemask #philly #webdesign #spaciousphilly @madzmurray @ West Philadelphia

One of my personal favorite ways to waste time is messing around with shiny new tools that promise to save time. My work schedule has been condensed significantly since my kids' schools closed down, which has made it more important than ever to wisely use the hours I have available for work. A few weekends ago I took some time to do a full revamp of the systems I used to manage my schedule, tasks, and projects. I didn't really have the time to spare but it needed to be done.... After spinning in circles for a bit and chasing a bunch of overly complex systems, I finally took a moment to define what makes a productivity app/tool/system worthwhile. Here are the Productivity Principals I came up with: 1. Simple is sustainable 2. Productivity tools need to solve a specific problem 3. Need a quick way to get things out of your head 4. Need to be reliable 5. Using tools for what they're best at, not trying to force everything on to a single platform 6. Does it bring me joy? #productivity #getorganized #worksmarter
