Busy evening for the C shift: -5:16PM units were dispatched to the Garden Apartments for heavy smoke coming from the laundry room. Upon investigation a small fire was located in a faulty machine. The machine was unplugged and locked out and the building was ventilated. -5:28PM as soon as the Squad called in service from the Gardens, 911 advised of an additional call for an unresponsive patient on the south side of town. The Squad and Chief responded and assisted City EMS wit...h patient care and extrication. -5:48PM as the crew was walking back to the Squad from the medical call they heard what sounded like smoke detectors sounding in a neighbors house. Upon further investigation, firefighters could see through the windows that the house was full of smoke. The incident was radioed into 911 to dispatch the Tower to the scene and access was gained to the house. Firefighters discovered a clogged pellet stove inside. Units remained on the scene to ventilate the house and also to assist the homeowner with cleaning out the exhaust and getting the stove operating safely again.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in Jeannette! With all of the changes this year due to the pandemic, the holiday festivities and light up night events were canceled for the safety of the community. Over the last week some city employees worked together to still bring some cheer this year by getting a tree and some holiday lights up downtown. The full time firefighters union donated a couple hundred dollars to buy the bulbs needed to change the downtown lights to red and green, firefighters used the fire alarm maintenance truck to change the bulbs and the Public Works employees all chipped in to purchase a tree that they put up and decorated in front of City Hall. We would like to wish everyone a safe and healthy holiday season!

There may be a slight kerosene type odor in various sections of the city currently. We were advised that a commercial jet had dumped fuel over the area on an emergency return back to Pittsburgh this morning. Elevation at the time of the dump was high enough to not cause any major issues but there will be an odor in the area.
