Help us - help you! With the current snow and the snow that’s coming, one of the best ways to help your local fire department is by keeping your nearest fire hydrant clear. (Approx. 3ft on all sides is best) Every second counts!

Still fine tuning the snowfall amounts with the arrival of new model data. No major changes, just a slight shift westward of higher snow amounts. This has neces...sitated expanding the warning a bit as well. Light snow will spread northward across the region this morning and afternoon. Models are in pretty good agreement that snowfall rates will really pick up after 3 or 4pm. These higher rates should last through the evening hours and then taper off after midnight as the storm moves out to sea. Everyone stay safe out there. See more

Today was a day that we were reminded why. Why we signed up for the fire service, why we dedicate our free time to multiple levels of training, and why in a year full of uncertainty we do everything we can to still help our community and neighbors every chance and in every way we can. Today was something beyond words. We were first visited by resident Jon Demi. A visit that brought tears of joy to many. Last week, we were dispatched to the Demi residence for a male ...with chest pains. Upon arrival Chief 31 expedited units due to the patients overall appearance. Our medic quickly arrived, did a quick triage of patient and updated the incoming EMS unit with the patients condition. Jon was having a heart attack, 100% blockage due to a twisted artery. Today, Jon and his wife walked into the station to thank the members who responded that day, a simple gesture that meant so much... Jon has also dedicated many years to protecting our area and our neighbors. It was a true joy to see him walk through the doors this morning. Thank you Mr Demi for stopping by and thank you for your dedication to protecting us all over the years. Members responding were: Chief Dave Hilderbrand, Capt. Courtney Hilderbrand, Lieutenant Carol Hilderbrand, Randy DeGarmo, and Grayson Stewart. Our toy drive was another success! We are amazed with the turn out and so excited to spread the joy to so many! More pictures to soon follow. We also posted about a members family in need of help due to their loosing their home due to a fire today. Within just a few hours we now have a room filled with donations! We are blessed to live in a community that continually goes above and beyond to help their neighbors. You provide our department with so much joy and appreciation whether it’s a thank you for responding to an emergency to making our events successful and quickly donating items when a neighbor is in need. This is just some of the reasons why we are so thankful to serve this community and our neighbors! Thank you! Merry Christmas and thank you! -Claysville VFD
