Senie Belle O'Malley, R.N., 73, of Peckville, died at home on Feb. 13, 2021, from Alzheimer's disease while a patient of Compassionate Care Hospice. Born in Manassas, Va., to Ernest and Myrtle Pierson Cornwell, she was one of 15 children. Senie was an adopted daughter of NEPA, where she and her husband, Rich, lived happily for more than 40 years, after falling in love in San Francisco. She loved her home and children, Shane (at home) and Kathleen (Minnesota), who meant everyt...hing to her. They gave her purpose and meaning. Her world revolved around their love and care. She was proud of them and their achievements. No children ever had their pictures taken more. Senie was a highly regarded nurse who cared for patients at the Mid-Valley Hospital for many fruitful years. She was also a licensed cosmetologist. During her younger years, Senie was quite the world-traveler, spending most of the 1970s in various Asian countries. While in India, she studied yoga under the instruction of B.K.S. Iyengar. She was inspired by the teachings of Meher Baba and enjoyed the music of Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead. She looked forward to visits to Virginia to be with her beloved birth family and we mustn't forget her affinity for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. In addition to her immediate family (which includes our faithful little dog, Penny), she leaves behind brothers, Irvin and Joe (Virginia), and Roy (Florida); as well as sisters, Gloria, Doris, Barbara and Kathy (all in Virginia). Total love to caregivers Kevin Williams, M.D., Michael Kim, D.O., and the staff at Telespond Senior Services, especially Kelli, Karen, Jen and Val. Arrangements by Robert E. Decker Funeral Home, Peckville.

James J. Black III of Scott Twp. passed away Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Regional Hospital of Scranton at the age of 70. He was the son of James and Gertrude Engle Black of Scott Twp. (deceased). He was the loving husband of Mary Castelli Black and great father to Joshua Black (wife, Ellen) and Kevin Black (wife, Jessica), as well as the grandfather to Addison and Everly Black, who he loved beyond words. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren ...and his great-nieces, Mariah and Kylee, to which he had a special bond. He could always count on them to make him laugh. Jim retired after 30 years as a supervisor from Thomson Consumer Electronics but was very active in his community as well. Early on in his family life, he was an active member of many softball leagues, ran his own carpet-cleaning business, started a pizza shop with his wife, was a member of the Justus Hose Co., a Scott Twp. supervisor, and was a 16-year member of the Lakeland School District Board. After his retirement, he became a member of the Scott Twp. Lions Club and the Masons. It would be hard to find someone in the Scott Twp. community who didn't cross paths with him. He is survived by his sister, Judy August (husband, Bernie) of Florida; brother, Russell Black (wife, Gail) of Scott Twp.; brother, Joseph Black of Archbald; sister, Rena Armbruster (husband, Charles) of Scott Twp.; and brother, Charles Black (wife, Cindy) of Clarks Summit; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He loved them all. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at both Geisinger and Regional Hospital of Scranton for his care. We would like to extend a special thank you to his home nurse and friend, Margaret Clancy, along with Dr. Richard Martin and Dr. Sean McCall. Please remember "Uncle Jimmy" for his kind heart, generous soul and love for his friends and family. The funeral will be Sunday with services by the Rev. Eric Watkins at 4 p.m. in the Robert E. Decker Funeral Home, 702 River St., Peckville. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery will be held Monday at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Sunday, 2 p.m. until time of service. Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing directives are in place and attendees must wear a mask. At the funeral home, those present should expect to wait to enter the building until notified and express their condolences in a timely manner to be considerate of others. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Montdale United Methodist Church food pantry, Justus Hose Co., and Scott Lions Club.
