New Emergency Services Units "ESU" for Delco. We have placed in service our 4th & 5th County ESU trucks. The "All-Hazard" trucks carry a wide range of equipment to deal with threats like flash flooding, mass casualties, missing persons, active shooters, barricaded subjects and biological decontamination (Covid). The ESU trucks are staffed by local Police Departments and respond both County & Region wide on major emergencies. During 2020, Delco's ESUs were deployed both here... and in Philadelphia at a number of major emergencies along with our MIRT (Major Incident Response Team). We are the first County in the region to introduce the ESU concept using local Police Departments. Departments now hosting the ESU Trucks include Chester Twp (Sector 1 & 3), Nether Providence (Sector 2 & PSP areas), Folcroft (Sector 4 & 5), Haverford (Sector 6 & County SWAT) and Radnor Twp (Sector 7). The ESU program is being funded by FEMA under an Urban Area Security Initiative Grant. Another innovative partnership to better serve and protect Delco.

Ford Motor Company & the United Auto Workers produced, delivered & donated surgical masks for First Responders today. The masks will help protect you, as our local Heroes do their duties. The donation was part of a grant request to Ford and the UAW from our Emergency Management Team.

Time for Delco to get the Vote out once again! This time, to select our County's favorite Police K-9 to be the face of the Protection for Paws charity. Delco's K-9 candidates include: *K9 Chapek with Lansdowne Police *K9 Sarge with Folcroft Police... *K9 Nick with Upper Darby Township Police *K9 Quattro with the Delaware County Sherriff's Office Costs nothing to vote and support the hometown Teams. https://www.protection4paws.com/cruzinfork9s Protection for Paws is an all volunteer, (501c3) non-profit organization that dedicates its time because of a love for our K9s and a respect for our Law Enforcement Officers. Their mission is to raise funds to provide free AceK9 Heat Alarm systems to regulate the internal temperature of the police vehicle and alert the handler should the vehicle reach an unsafe temperature. This system also has a door pop function which allows the K9 to be deployed from the cruiser remotely.

Roads are very icy. Major accidents this morning on I-95, Rt 476 and Route 1

ESU Teams have deployed auxiliary power, lighting and heaters to a polling place in Sharon Hill. Electrical problems have NOT impacted voting and the issue is expected to be resolved before dark.

Our ESU (Emergency Services Units) Trucks are standing by across the County ready with logistical support for polling places. The ESU's have tents, tables, generators and lighting. We provide this level of "back-up" for every election. No issues at Polling places have been reported that required our support.... Weather is great and polls are open!

Delco is Ready to Vote and we are ALL here to make sure that happens safely! Our Department's role as part of the Election Team is to provide logistical & field support to those working the polling places and counting the votes. We will also be doing our part to make sure Election Day is secure.

Delaware County Emergency Services was out in support of Tinicum Township 1st Responders and their mutual aid partners and Philadelphia Fire and EMS and the PHL Airport at the PHL EPEX 2020, a full scale exercise held every 3 years to practice plans and maintain skills that would be needed for an aircraft accident. Adjusted appropriately to keep everyone safe during the pandemic, many goals and objectives were met and of course some lessons learned.

Congratulations to our Steve Castellano on his graduation from the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology. Steve is our Chief Radio Engineer and his current efforts include leading the 911 Vesta phone system upgrade, the move to Mobile Platforms for dispatching, the Zello Cellular Network Radio program, launching text-911 and a soon to be announced major radio improvement plan. Steve continues to advance our Team through his hard work and his commitment to academic success. We value Stephen and are proud that his commitment to better himself; reflects his passion for DelCom to be the best!

The Delaware County Bureau of Elections has 32 ballot drop box locations, located in municipalities across the county. Each of the 32 ballot drop boxes is open and accepting ballots from Delaware County residents. The ballot drop boxes, approved by the County and purchased with funds provided by a grant from the Center for Tech and Civic Life, are designed to provide a safe, sound and secure method of voting to augment traditional in-person voting and vote-by-mail options a...lso available to residents of Delaware County. The convenient drop boxes allow residents to vote without the need for in-person interaction or a reliance on mail carriers during COVID-19 pandemic. Voters can cast their vote* with confidence while practicing social distancing outdoors. Unlike the requirement that in-person voters must vote at a specific polling place, Delaware County voters can use any ballot drop box in the county, in addition to the three ballot boxes located at the Voter Service Centers in Media, Upper Darby, and Chester. Each of the ballot drop boxes is safely secured in place, locked and sealed, and under 24/7 video surveillance. Completed ballots will be retrieved daily by County election personnel. The list of locations is available on the Delco Votes! website at delcopa.gov/dropbox Voting Reminders (Don’t Vote Naked!) Voters who want to make sure their vote is counted are reminded to carefully follow the vote-by-mail instructions enclosed with their ballot. Ballots must be filled out with blue or black ink, and ballot boxes must be filled out completely. The completed ballot should first be placed in the smaller secrecy envelope marked OFFICIAL ELECTION BALLOT, which should then be sealed. The secrecy envelope containing the completed ballot is then placed in the larger return envelope marked VOTER’S DECLARATION and then signed, dated and sealed. Note: Return of a ballot by anyone other than the voter is prohibited unless the person returning the ballot is rendering assistance to a disabled voter or an emergency absentee voter. Such assistance requires a declaration signed by the voter and by the person rendering assistance. Pipeline Safety training this week here at DES. The MERO program is an awareness level course that brings together first responders, emergency managers and operators to discuss risks and response options. The Mariner Emergency Responder Outreach (MERO) Program was developed to provide emergency responder training on responding to NGL incidents along the Mariner East rights-of-way and in the communities surrounding the pipelines.

Register & VOTE riverside today at the beautiful Subara Soccer Stadium in Chester untill 6 PM. Located along the waterfront, the easist and quickest way to make sure BALLOT is securely received by County Elections Officials is here today untill 6 PM. Tomorrow, you can also pick up a ballot vote & here or simply drop off your mail in ballot between 10 AM & 6 PM. Our "Blue Army" of Volunteers is here assisting and enjoying the waterfront and making sure everyone has SAFE access to Vote.

The cars are rolling through the County's Free Flu Clinic at the Broomall Fire Station. The MRC "Blue Army" is making it happen.

Delco Flu Clinic is open today in Marple Twp! Free flu shots are available at the drive up clinic located in the Broomall Fire Station. The Firehouse is on Malin Road at West Chester Pike. The climic is open until 3pm. All County Residents are welcome! Flu vacine is available for those 3 years old and up. Bilingual servives are also available. Congrats to Steven Grestky on his appointment to Commissioner of the City of Chester Police Department. Commissioner Grestky has always been passionate about his City and we look forward to supporting his initiatives. We also bid farewell and extend our gratitude to outgoing Commissioner Otis Blair. Commissioner Blair has spent his entire career in service to the City and County. Flight Certification this week for Pilots in our UAV program. With our fleet of drones, we respond on an increasingly busier level to emergency events. Events include major fires, missing persons, flooding and supporting Active Police Operations (We do NOT fly over rallies or spontaneous gatherings). Our purpose is to support operations and we do it well. Pilots certifying this week included members of DES, Chester Police & Fire, CID, Park Police and the Haz-Mat Team.
