For many of us being stuck at home has us spending a lot more time on the internet, and because of this, we should be mindful to practice safe web browsing habits. Here are a few tips you can implement right now to help protect yourself from viruses, malware, and/or the dreaded ransomware! First tip: Make sure you use an antivirus software. We recommend using Microsoft's Windows Defender; it is free and unlike many of the other free antivirus softwares out there, it contains ...no bloatware. Second tip: Use an ad-blocker extension in your web browser. An Ad Blocker is software that filters content and blocks pop-ups, banner ads, sticky ads, and auto-playing videos on webpages. There are many Ad Blocker software’s to choose from, but many users are turning to uBlockOrigin. Third tip: Keep your computer's operating system and web browser up to date. Operating systems along with web browsers will periodically have security updates that need to be installed. Fourth tip: Be careful of images you click on while browsing the internet -- they can lead you to unsafe sites. Final tip: Never download or open an email unless you are sure that sender is a reliable source.

If you haven't upgraded your PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10 yet, then it is time to think about doing so for a few good reasons. Microsoft's support for Windows 7 ended in January 2020, which means Microsoft no longer offers technical support or provides software updates to your computer. Your computer will still continue to work even if you don't upgrade to Windows 10. However, you will no longer be protected by any security updates or fixes Microsoft releases. The security... updates are highly important and without them, your computer is at greater risk for viruses, malware, etc. As a result, this will have you spending more money down the road on computer repair services. Windows 10 comes with a bunch of new features and tools that make it an easier and smoother experience compared to Windows 7. Windows 10 was released in 2015, which means you don't have to worry support ending any time soon. Don't delay, upgrade today! See more

Last of the Mohicans Style Hard Drive Destruction! Do you plan on donating, recycling or selling your computer or laptop? Make sure to do the following things before the device leaves your possession. First, backup any data that you want saved onto an external storage device. Then verify that all of the data is saved and available on the external drive or device. This may seem like a no brainer, but more often than not, people forget to perform a full backup or an up-to-da...te backup -- only to realize this too late. Once the data is properly backed-up, the next step is to remove the hard drive. Hard drive removal may be difficult in some devices, as it may require the disassembly of the entire computer or laptop to gain access to the drive. Upon completing this step, you have 2 options: save the hard drive and keep it in a secure location or format the hard drive and then destroy it using a standard home tool, such as a hammer! Keep in mind that this is an at home, do it yourself method. Professional data destruction require a machine to crush and/or shred the hard drive, so that data can never be retrieved or reconstructed. Keep your private information away from data thieves, who can and will use that information for malicious intent. See more

HP Laptop BSOD Repair: A Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is caused by problems with your computer's hardware or issues with its hardware driver software. In this incident, the laptop fell onto the floor while still powered on, causing damage to the laptop's mechanical hard drive. Mechanical hard drives have delicate moving parts that are precisely calibrated in order to work. Any shock that the drive sustains may cause damage to the moving parts and in turn, cause failure. A Solid State Drive (SSD) on the other hand requires no moving parts to work, which makes them better suited for physical damage. They are also a better choice if you're looking to upgrade your laptop's storage capacity. This laptop will require a drive replacement and operating system reload to be fully operational again.

HP Desktop Computer Repair: The PC boots up and displays a frozen HP logo, but does not proceed beyond this point. The first step is to determine if the issue is software or hardware related, since many software issues can arise from a failing hard drive, we check the health of the drive first. We extract the hard drive from the PC and connect it to our test computer that contains specialized software, which enables us to read the health or S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring Analysis... and Reporting Technology) status of the drive. This hard drive turned out to be healthy with no S.M.A.R.T warnings or errors. We then move onto BIOS to verify settings. When we attempt to gain access to the BIOS, the system boots directly onto the HP logo screen and freezes, even with no hard drive connected (all signs pointing to a hardware issue). After a few more failed attempts to enter BIOS, we took the motherboard out for a visual inspection, which did not reveal anything out of the ordinary, such as blown capacitors, burnt components or liquid damage (yes, we’ve seen liquid damage on desktops before!). After a few other checks were performed our diagnostics revealed that the computer had a faulty motherboard that needed to be replaced.
