Did you know that Elizabethtown College was founded as a co-educational institution in 1899 and included female students from the very beginning? For #Internati...onalWomensDay, we look back and celebrate the storied history of women at Etown! 1899 - English professor Elizabeth Myer is hired as the first woman faculty member of the College. Myer Residence Hall was dedicated in her honor on May 29, 1961. 1903 - Women were among the earliest graduates at Etown, and the first alumni listed in the College’s annual catalog were all women: Lizzie M. Ebay, Luella G. Gogelsanger, and Bessie M. Rider for commercial course work. 1954 - Ethel Wenger ‘24 becomes the first woman to serve on the Board of Trustees. She went on to establish the Women’s Auxiliary of Elizabethtown College and reflected on her achievements by saying, I’ve been told I was a pioneer, but I wasn’t aware of it.
