Parents/Guardians, Earlier today, we received a phone call which threatened all students and staff at the Junior/Senior High School. After immediately entering into a low level lockdown (All perimeter doors locked and students held in classrooms) we worked in cooperation with the Pennsylvania State Police and they did a fantastic job of quickly identifying the call as not credible.... Thanks to the professional work of the Troopers, the lockdown was lifted after 20 minutes and all students and staff resumed their normal schedules. Thank you for your constant support regarding these types of matters and as Superintendent, I will always make student safety a top priority. Mr. Mark Loucks Superintendent

Correction 11/30/20 2:48: The correct number of positive cases reported is two, thank you. Original post: ... Good afternoon, I am writing to inform you that three individuals from Central Elementary tested positive over the weekend for Covid-19. As a result, Central Elementary School will move to full-time remote learning. The building be closed until December 14, at which point the hybrid instruction will resume. Individuals identified as having close contact have received personal notification from the school. All those identified as having close contact will be required to quarantine for 14 days. If you have not received personal notification from the principal’s office, your child has not been identified as having close contact. I understand this is a difficult situation for families. We are following CDC guidelines, Governor Wolf’s recommendations, and the district’s approved safety protocols during these uncertain times. Thank you for your continued support of Franklin Area School District students and staff. Mr. Mark Loucks Superintendent

11/19/2020 RE: Remote/Hybrid Learning Dear Parents/Guardians,... At the November 16th meeting of the Franklin Area School District Board of Directors, it was determined the current model of Remote/Hybrid Learning will continue. The administration intends to utilize this model until December 7th. If at any point in the process a change is needed to protect our students and staff or the county has experienced a decrease in numbers which may allow us to return to school for more in-person learning, you will receive notification of our intent to change as quickly and promptly as possible. Covid-19 has made it a difficult and confusing time for all of us. Our school board members along with myself are committed to providing an outstanding educational experience, while hopefully providing a little normalcy for our kids in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Franklin Area School District is and will always be a place where kids come first. Thank you for your continued cooperation. Mr. Mark Loucks Superintendent

Remember, FASD will move to Virtual Learning Monday, November 2nd through Thursday, November 5th. Students should log in to their teacher's Google Classroom daily for lessons and assignments. All work posted is mandatory (NOT optional like some of it was this past spring). Students in grades 7-12 need to remember to log in to EACH of their teachers' Google Classrooms. There is no school on Friday, November 6th, but virtual or phone in parent-teacher conferences will be held. The current plan is to return to in-person learning on Monday, November 9th.

COVID 19 Update from Superintendent Mr. Mark Loucks In order to keep everyone aware of what is going on within our school district, two staff members at the Jr./Sr. High School have tested positive for Covid-19. As a leadership team, we met this morning in order to activate our approved Covid-19 Response Plan. We also reached out to the Department of Health for their recommendations on how best to handle the situation moving forward. Since both staff members are currently is...olating at home, the administration has been instructed by the department to contact trace as an attempt to effectively mitigate future prospective cases. There is no intention tomorrow to cancel school or move virtual. Students and staff will report (10/30/20) as normal. However, I will continue to monitor the situation, doing everything within my power to keep our kids and staff safe. If I determine a need arises to cancel school or go virtual, you will be notified immediately.
