May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month! Please check yourself, your children, and your pets after spending time outdoors. PA Tick Research Lab tests ticks for free with a quick turnaround, so you can see if you need medical attention after a bite.

If you are thinking about getting to work in your yard this weekend, remember to plant native species!

We had a fantastic day yesterday with our rescheduled Earth Day tree planting. No snow this week, but a short disruption from rain and thunder. We are so thankful for the Crawford County Conservation District, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and Allegheny College student volunteers who helped plant, and to Jessica Graf and Eric Graf for their tremendous work in readying the property for this project. They are wonderful partners to work with on this FCVC Conservation Easement.

We had a great turnout for our Pop-Up Cleanup on Saturday, with teams working at our Walkers Landing and Cussewago Riffle properties. Thanks to all those who helped! Hope you'll join us the next time, but you can pick up litter any day!

In a challenging year, we are thankful we've been able to continue our land conservation work. This week we closed on our 6th acquisition for the year. In 2020 we've permanently protected over 250 acres to bring our total to well over 2,500 acres of conserved land in the watershed. This new acquisition nearly doubles the size of our Black Bridge Conservation Area in Erie County, PA. This new acreage protects almost a mile of riparian area along the South Branch of French Cree...k. This land in the upper reaches of the watershed is important since it impacts the entire watershed below it. We were able to purchase this property through the generosity of a few donors who gave specific funds for purchasing land. This property will soon be open to the public for passive, leave-no-trace recreation. We may just squeeze one more transaction in before the end of the year, and it's a big one! Stay tuned......
