He Is: The Foretelling Last weekend, my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers were defeated in the NFL playoffs by a team no one, including the Steelers, thought had a chance. As most of our congregation knows I'm a Steelers' fan, so many of you reached out to me to make sure I was "okay" and that I was not throwing things at my TV. The truth is, I had watched them play all year and knew they weren't as good as advertised, so I really wasn't shocked at all. When you have evidence of th...e harsh truth, it profits you nothing to tell yourself lies just so that you can believe your preferred and created narrative. Yet, that's what so many of us do in regards to our own sin. Human beings like to pretend they have things under control, pretend that God either doesn't care or actually supports our evil behavior, or pretend that the consequences are manageable. Many create a perception of God that fits their narrative. In the Bible, a prophet named Ezekiel was called specifically to open their eyes, preach the truth, and call them away from their sin and toward the Lord. This should be our focus too. This week at Friendship, we'll dig into the Book of Ezekiel and see what God wants us to learn about accepting His punishment and returning to Him in repentance. And we'll discover how God wants us to address the national sins of our day. You will not want to miss this message, so please think about coming out and fellowshipping with us.
