This new law takes effect TODAY. It’s called the "Move Over Law". If an emergency vehicle (Police, EMS, Fire, Tow Truck, Construction Vehicle etc...) is stopped on the side of the road, you need to slow down 20 miles under the posted speed limit AND/OR move over if you have multiple lanes to put distance between you and what’s happening on the side of the road. Violators face a $500 fine for the first offense, $1,000 for second and $2,000 for a third, plus a 90 day suspension.

DCNR is doing an approximate 150 acre controlled burn on the southern end of French Creek State Park today in the game lands - with the direction of the winds, expect an occasional heavy odor or visual of smoke and potential light ash falling across our Township. As always call 911 if you believe there is a fire, but please be aware this may be happening throughout the day today.

Santa has confirmed his landing in Geigertown tomorrow. Friendly reminder for everyone who wants to see him!

24 and mutual aid units were dispatched to Stericycle on Chestnut Hill Road for a reported explosion and commercial fire with a burn victim. Crews arrived to find the fire already extinguished by employees. EMS made the decision to fly the burn victim and Medevac 1 was requested to fly. Engine and Ladder 24 setup a landing zone in the St. Benedict’s picnic ground and assisted the flight crew, Southern Berks EMS and Elverson-Honey Brook EMS with transporting the patient onto the helicopter.

With the expected snow fall amounts, this is VERY IMPORTANT to remember and share with others. Gas (Propane or Natural) and oil appliances may have an exhaust vent and a fresh air intake that exit your home lower to the ground. This includes dryer vents as well. These can quickly become covered by accumulating snow or wind blown drifts against the side of the house. They may also exit in other areas such as the roof line which could be covered. Not only can this damage yo...ur appliances, but it can quickly cause a carbon monoxide buildup in your home which can cause severe illness or death. Remember, carbon monoxide is completely odorless and by the time you realize something is wrong, it may be too late. Please take a few minutes and understand where your vents are and determine if you need to keep an eye on them. During the snowfall, periodically check them and remove all snow in a 3'x3' area if possible. As always, if you don't have a carbon monoxide detector, get one.
