We are at once both happy and sad to announce the retirement of the founder of our practice, Dr. Gary Gordon! It is difficult, if not impossible to sum up his contributions and achievements to both sports medicine and podiatry over the past 46 years of dedicated service.
Thank you so much to Dr. Alicia Canzanese for her PPMA Spotlight contribution! We are very excited to feature her on this Friday’s post! Dr. Canzanese attended ...Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and completed her residency at the Christiana Care Health System in Delaware. She owns a practice, Gordon Podiatry, LLC, in Glenside, PA, located just outside of Philadelphia, and she sees patients with all general podiatry conditions. However, she does like to emphasize and focus on sports medicine and recently become a Fellow of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine so we congratulate her on that! Her office offers Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, and pre-COVID, they were planning to establish an in-office treadmill video gait analysis. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Canzanese works with the Chestnut Hill Residency program and hopes to start performing research studies alongside them in the near future! Her favorite part about being a DPM is helping people and having the opportunity to interact with individuals from so many different backgrounds! Dr. Canzanese was inspired to pursue podiatry after she became interested in sports medicine as an athlete. In college, she was an Athletic Training major and started learning about different aspects of medicine; she became interested in podiatry through biomechanics and evaluating injured athletes’ gait. She then shadowed an area sports medicine podiatrist, which solidified her decision to pursue podiatry! She thinks the best way to recruit students is having doctors go to high schools, colleges, and universities to give presentations about the profession. Many of those students have no idea what podiatry is and may not pursue it because they simply didn’t know it was an option! Dr. Canzanese actually gave a lecture to pre-med students at her alma mater last year, and the overwhelming response from them was, Wow, I didn’t know this was even an option! Dr. Canzanese’s fun fact is that she is a runner! She competed in Track and Field in college as a sprinter but has since transitioned into recreational distance running. She also enjoys camping, cooking, and arts & crafts. A fun crafty example is that she recently hand-made individual felt flowers for all of her bridesmaids and her bridal bouquet at her wedding! During this time of COVID-19, Dr. Canzanese has been following CDC guidelines and wearing a mask see the image below for proof! She is also trying to support local mom-and-pop type restaurants by ordering curbside takeout!
Here at Gordon Podiatry we cast and fit patients for custom molded orthotics for both the treatment and prevention of certain foot/ankle/leg conditions! Everybody’s feet are unique and there are many different types of custom orthotics, so, we take the care and time to do a thorough evaluation, make accurate cast molds of your feet, and can now even utilize technology with an app based video gait analysis program while watching you walk or run on a treadmill to help determine the best orthotic type for you!
