They’re Here!!! I am so grateful and thankful to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Schools - AOPS Office of Catholic Education and to the The Foundation for C...atholic Education for their commitment to the health and safety of our students and faculty! Their generous donation of these beautiful Teacher Shield Protectors (TSP-20) not only give us an extra layer of protection, but also, lift our spirits and show the true beauty of our community working together! I share with you today good news about Saint Pio School. Mrs. Russo, and the school staff have been working very hard to ready the school for opening on Septem...ber 9. So many improvements to the school are underway including the paving of the parking lots. Also, Mrs. Russo and her staff have been developing a plan to keep all our students safe when we reopen in September. The flowing is a letter that was sent to all our Saint Pio School families. Dear Saint Pio Parents and Guardians, I pray that you are having a beautiful and restful summer. I wanted to take a few moments today to reassure all of our families that we continue to remain committed to reopening our schools in September with a 5 full day cohort program that follows the protocols that you received from me in June. As a member of the Archdiocesan COVID-19 Task Force, Catholic Schools Onward, I can assure our families that our protocols and plans to reopen adhere to the guidelines set forth by the CDC and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Our opening date for school is September 9, 2020. We will be opening as a 5 full day program that follows the cohort model. There is much growth happening at our school right now. Not only are our classrooms being readied for the arrival of our students, but we are also in the process of having all of our sidewalks redone, the parking lots are being repaved, and a new security fence is being installed around the school’s property. Currently, I am working on a document that will allow our families to know exactly how the protocols set forth by the Archdiocese will look in our school. Some of the big questions that still remain from my last email continue to be: Will my child have to wear a mask all day? Will the kids be able to play in the yard? Will there be a CARES Program? If my child is absent, can they attend virtually? To help answers these questions, I can tell you that as of now, the children will not be required to wear a mask when in their classroom but will have to wear a mask at other times. Although we will have social distance protocols in place, the children should be able to play in the school yard at recess time. We will be able to have our CARES Program. We will have guidelines in place regarding when virtual instruction will be needed. I am reattaching Dr. McLaughlin’s letter from June, so that you have the link that refers to the work of the Catholic Schools Onward Task Force. I am also attaching a letter from the United Catholic Conference of Bishops. This letter contains a link to help urge Congress to not only give emergency aid to public schools, but to also give emergency aid to Catholic and nonpublic schools. We are so fortunate here at Saint Pio’s that our school is doing well. Father Weber, the teachers, the staff, and myself remain committed to the health and safety of our students and school family. As I receive any updates, I will continue to keep you all informed. Know that you remain in my prayers. All my best, Mrs. Russo

Pope Francis gave a beautiful and powerful sermon yesterday on a topic everyone is interested in: HAPPINESS. May I suggest you take a few moments in silence to...day to read his words. I hope and pray they give you the peace of mind they have given to me. You can have flaws, be anxious, and even be angry, but do not forget that your life is the greatest enterprise in the world. Only you can stop it from going bust. Many appreciate you, admire you and love you. Remember that to be happy is not to have a sky without a storm, a road without accidents, work without fatigue, relationships without disappointments. To be happy is to find strength in forgiveness, hope in battles, security in fear, love in discord. It is not only to enjoy the smile, but also to reflect on the sadness. It is not only to celebrate the successes, but to learn lessons from the failures. It is not only to feel happy with the applause, but to be happy in anonymity. Being happy is not a fatality of destiny, but an achievement for those who can travel within themselves. To be happy is to stop feeling like a victim and become your destiny's author. It is to cross deserts, yet to be able to find an oasis in the depths of our soul. It is to thank God for every morning, for the miracle of life. Being happy is not being afraid of your own feelings. It's to be able to talk about you. It is having the courage to hear a "no". It is confidence in the face of criticism, even when unjustified. It is to kiss your children, pamper your parents, to live poetic moments with friends, even when they hurt us. To be happy is to let live the creature that lives in each of us, free, joyful and simple. It is to have maturity to be able to say: "I made mistakes". It is to have the courage to say "I am sorry". It is to have the sensitivity to say, "I need you". It is to have the ability to say "I love you". May your life become a garden of opportunities for happiness ... That in spring may it be a lover of joy. In winter a lover of wisdom. And when you make a mistake, start all over again. For only then will you be in love with life. You will find that to be happy is not to have a perfect life. But use the tears to irrigate tolerance. Use your losses to train patience. Use your mistakes to sculptor serenity. Use pain to plaster pleasure. Use obstacles to open windows of intelligence. Never give up .... Never give up on people who love you. Never give up on happiness, for life is an incredible show!
