Roxborough couple honored for being good people! Thank you Renshaws! Ken and Joan Renshaw, our FOGP stalwart volunteers, were honored yesterday for maintaining the Memorial to Officer Joseph Friel yesterday at Ridge & Acorn. The link leads to a Channel 3 story that aired yesterday. The FOP and the Mayor were present where they were honored. There is also a Memorial in the park - a large bronze Plaque between the gardens in front of the Parkhouse- that was dedicated to Officer Friel over 15 years ago.
The weather outside is frightfully bad. Gorgas Park is a muddy mess. As a result, regrettably Caroling Night has been cancelled this year. On a happy note- we have already collected toys for needy kids. For people who would still like to donate toys, please drop them off with Chris Meyers at the Little Xmas Tree sales house at Gorgas Park. We will make sure the Kids get them. Everyone have a Happy, Healthy, Joyful Holiday Season. We hope to see everyone in 2020!!!... Sincerely, Friends of Gorgas Park
Start December off with some holiday cheer! Caroling Night is this Sunday, 12/1 at 6pm.
The 21st Ward Veterans Association will be hosting Pearl Harbor Day services on Sunday December 1, 2019. The service will commence at 1:00 p.m. at the Gorgas Park War Memorial. The Gorgas Park War Memorial is located along 6300 Ridge Avenue between Hermitage & Fountain Streets in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. The Roxborough Male Chorus will perform with the singing of the National Anthem and God Bless America The service will include the pledge of allegiance, invoc...ation, remarks, wreath placement honoring all veterans, rifle salute, taps, a benediction, and closing remarks. This marks the 78th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. This is the event that entered the United States into World War II. The 21st Ward Veterans Association will continue to honor all veterans and the roles they have played to assure that America remains free. Time does not erase history and this observance as did 9-11-2001 remains a reminder that our American way of life is constantly in jeopardy from attack from our enemies.
Another fabulous Harvest Festival in the books. This year was made even more special by John Boyce receiving a special citation from City Council for his service to Gorgas Park and the Roxborough community. 3 cheers for John!
Tomorrow is the best day of the Fall! Odyssey rock and soul, DJ Robbie D, scarecrow making, pumpkin painting, food, rides, crafters, and more!
Clothing Donations needed! Our usual Harvest Festival scarecrow clothing source has fallen through. We are in desperate need of men's pants, corduroys, and button down shirts. Please drop off any clothing donations for scarecrow making at the park house, next to the recycling bins. See you Sunday!
