It is with the most profound sense of loss and absolute disbelief that I must inform you all that Kyle Shenandoah, our friend and Vice President of the Grays Ferry Civic Association was involved in a vehicular accident and was taken from us on Wednesday morning August 21st. It has taken some time to be able to gather some composure to write this. There are few people in this world who are motivated purely by the drive to help others and Kyle was one of them. He was totally d...evoted to the betterment of our neighborhood, our city and the world at large. His noble character and indomitable will burned through our lives as bright as a shining star of inspiration of what could be accomplished if we all worked together for the common good. The world is a little less bright with him not in it. I could write pages about all the organizations Kyle helped. There were so many initiatives he personally drove by sheer determination. Though he operated through our organization make no mistake that he alone was the driving force behind everything we accomplished. I was more than happy to support him and create an environment where he could realize his goals without restriction but no group could ever hope to achieve as much as he did by his own hard work and dedication. We had spoken numerous times about him taking the reins and letting him take things above and beyond because I knew with Kyle there were no limits in what he could accomplish. I was looking forward to how high he would climb and living in that future he influenced. I am none the less awestruck by the accomplishments he already achieved in such a short span of time. As his name is mentioned over the next days and weeks by different people, groups and organizations, those of you who didn’t know him will get a sense of just how much he was involved in and you’ll get a feeling of just what a punch to the heart this loss is for all of us. Please contact us if he was working on anything with you because we are committed to completing all his projects as Kyle would have left nothing undone. Soon as the family releases funeral services we will post them in accordance with their wishes. I pray God sends angels of mercy to console his family. Their loss is our loss and we grieve with them. Most of the development in Grays Ferry has taken place in the northern and eastern parts of the neighborhood, making 29th & Tasker a bit far south and a bit far west. There will be weekend art worksh...ops at LANIER PARK 2900 Tasker street as part of a larger initiative by The Trust for Public Land to promote community-centered action for Philly’s rising temperatures. Heat Response are currently gathering summer memories and traditions of Grays Ferry adults and elders, written on postcards and returned to the yellow mailboxes in Lanier Park. Students in the art workshops will design their sculptures based on these postcard responses. We will solicit community input on one giant cooling sculpture to install in Lanier Park in summer 2021.Heat Response will occur in multiple stages over the next year.
