Happy #earthday2021 We were so excited to be celebrating both on campus and at home with our virtual students. In perfect collision, science took the lead today for an all-day, cross-curricular extravaganza if art joined science on earth day- of course you would be creating works of art made only with beets, blackberries, and matcha. Students are also building gardening beds and planting flowers native to our area for our bees, so we look forward to more delicious organic honey next year from our #apiary. #discovergrayson @earth_day2021

The 25 ft. mural will be completed later this month, with students in all grades participating in this amazing art project.

With so many concerns floating around, students can benefit significantly from taking time to tune into their own thoughts, feelings, and well-being. Ms. Freeborn shares this new blog post of her work with our students. Like this post if you currently have or would benefit from adopting a mindfulness practice yourself! https://bit.ly/2IXxT4N

It was so great to see you at our virtual parent coffee today. Our friends at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) just passed this along -and while I love our science program this might be fun for a snow day. The MIT Society of Women Engineers is sending out FREE science and engineering kits to students in grades 3rd through 8th. Their goal is to continue increasing interest in STEM during these virtual times. Kits are limited. Sign up here: https://bit.ly/2HbSmBM

Join Frank C. Worrell, Ph.D. Professor in the Graduate School at U.C. Berkeley to learn the factors that lead to many high potential students of color and other underserved populations to be missing in gifted programs: the achievement gap, opportunity gap, and excellence gap. His insights and research on cultural identities offers parents and educators a path to increased understanding and collaboration that comes when we look through the lens of others. Online only. Grayson Bibliophiles Rejoice! When life gave ersatz librarian and Director of Research, Jill Wurman remote learning orders and a shuttered library, Ms. Wurman began crossing urban and suburban Philadelphia to bring bespoke collections of books to remote learners. The Grayson Bookmobile remains available to anyone learning remotely even as we welcome students back for in-person learning. Books are delivered in accordance with our health and safety protocols, and while contact free drop-off is available, some families were just very eager to see their librarian come to their home!

As our students return to school, the opportunities to expand their learning outdoors in a unique research-based play environment are taking shape. There could hardly be a better time to provide daily opportunities to experiment, fail, recover, and try again, whether that involves testing social boundaries, trying on new identities, or discovering that an effort that fails is not the end of the world especially when explicitly part of a space free of judgement than the rest of their life, especially at school. Imagine your teenage student self - what would you want to create in our play-lab?
