Greeley Vol. Fire and Rescue 23.12.2020

To all of our wonderful residents: While 2020 hasn’t been the best year for our community or our country, we remain extremely grateful. Your fire Department was able to accomplish more in 2020 than any other year in the last 10 years or more. We obtained 8 new members in the last 9 months, purchased all brand new life saving equipment, some newer vehicles, and most importantly strengthened our relationship with you, the public. And we are extremely thankful as none of this wo...uld have been possible without you, your donations, or your support. In 2021 we want you all to expect even more from all of us here at Station 23. All the great minds we have here have been working feverishly to plan the year ahead. Figuring out how and what we need to better serve you, and how & what we can do to provide and interact with the community more than ever before. All while safe guarding the trust you instill in us each and everyday to protect you, your loved ones, and your homes. And we promise we won’t let you down. Our doors are always open & our phones are always on. If there is anything we can ever do for any of you please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. That is what we are here for. So from all the officers & members at Station 23, I personally would like to wish each and every one of you a safe, healthy, and prosperous Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a wonderful New Year. Kevin McCullough President/Asst Chief Greeley Vol. Fire Dept

A very big Thank You to all the residents and children who can out to see Santa yesterday! While we would have loved to have been able to do more, with all the regulations in place it just wasn’t possible. Next year we assure you will be bigger and better than this year for sure! Your Fire Department is steadily growing and you, our residents, will be seeing more from your Fire Department on a regular basis! Much more community interaction to come! We the members here at St...ation 23 are happy we could provide some sort of normalcy for our children in a time that is far from it. Merry Christmas!!

Greeley Vol. Fire and Rescue 12.10.2020

Tonight 23-1, 23-2, and 23 Rescue with 4 additional firefighters took the short ride down to Station 41 to participate in a vehicle extrication drill. Station 41 is our primary mutual aid partner so having these drills is of the upmost importance. This also allows the time for the officers of both departments to get together, conversations, and recognize each other’s strengths & weaknesses. Units worked to familiarize themselves with each other’s extrication equipment and apparatus layout while performing a variety of extrication techniques. After drill was over all participants sat and talked over dinner. We would like to thank Station 41 for the invite and look forward to possibly doing this regularly once a month.

08/14/20 23 Rescue, 23 Tanker, 29 Ladder, 25 Engine, 25 Traffic. Stations 25 & 29 were dispatched to the 1400 block of Route 6 for the reported fire alarm. Shortly after 29 Ladder went responding, Comm Center got an updated address from the alarm company. Putting the incident in Station 23’s 1st due coverage area. At this time, Comm Center updated the response card and 23 units were added. ... 23-2 went went responding and advised to continue 29 Ladder as they were already on the Road. 23 Rescue with 4 firefighters and 23 Tanker went responding a short time later, arriving on scene simultaneously with 29 units. Units did an exterior inspection with a thermal imager while waiting for a key holder To arrive and came up with nothing. Once the key holder arrived, units entered the building, did a thorough inspection, reset the alarm, and all units went available. We are urging all commercial establishments in our area, who’s owners don’t live in close Proximity, to look into the purchase of a Knox Box which can allow the fire department to gain access to the building in an emergency situation. For more info, please message us.

A few months back, Station 23 had a company come out to our station to test & inspect all of our hose, ladders, and pumps. At the end of the hose testing we were shocked to learn that a majority Of our smaller diameter hose failed. After a lot of research the members decided to purchase all new Ponn Supreme 1 3/4 and 2 1/2 hose for all of our front line apparatus as well as new Akron Nozzles to go on our Rescue Engine. Over the next few weeks, members will continue to fami...liarize themselves with the ins, the outs, and the abilities of our new setups. We would like to Thank Todd Rudloff and the entire sales team at Firefighter One for your guidance & expertise in helping us decide what brand and model best suited our needs! Just another step taken by the members of Station 23 to ensure we have the best equipment to provide our residents with the best service possible, without cutting corners!

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE 07/21/2020 To the residents of Greeley & Lackawaxen Township,... Last night at the monthly meeting of the Lackawaxen Township Board of Supervisors during the public comment section, there were comments made by Chief Jim Johanson & Asst Chief Fred Suljic of the Lackawaxen Fire Department about the level of protection that your Greeley Vol. Fire Department provides. We would like to assure you all that these comments were inaccurate & the furthest thing from factual. As a fire department, the level of safety provided is our number 1 priority. Therefore, we continually update equipment and partake in new forms of training to provide you the service you deserve. Additionally, we have automatic mutual aid agreements set in place to ensure the appropriate amount of firefighters & equipment are requested to each incident. When the officers of the fire department sit down to make these decisions, there is multiple factors that come in to play. When assessing our mutual aid partners and deciding how they can be of assistance to us we look at their equipment quality, training levels, firefighter staffing/availability during different times of the day, among others. Taking the extensive amount of time to do these things and put a plan together to serve you, the residents, is the most important part of the job. We, the officers of the Greeley Vol. Fire Department, would like to assure you that the choices we make are with all the resident’s best interests in mind. When you call for help, we want to know we have the best the area has to offer coming to assist you & us in your time of need. Therefore, the comments made at last evenings meeting are 100% false. When we call on our mutual aid partners for assistance, we request only the best to help us help you. If any of our residents have questions or concerns related to the service we provide, or the local agencies we choose to assist us, I urge you to contact me immediately. We will do our best to address these concerns and provide you with any pertinent information. Sincerely, Kevin McCullough President Greeley Vol. Fire Department
