It is with great sadness that this post is being made, as over the weekend our baseball family has suffered an insurmountable loss. If you have visited the Hermitage Little League Complex over the past 10 years, you have had the pleasure to know Mike Messer. Mike was many things to many people at our complex; a father, a coach, a mentor, an umpire, a game announcer, a maintenance director, a board member, a former league president, but most importantly he was a friend to... all. Of the many positive things that we could say about Mike, the most important was his dedication to create a positive baseball experience for as many kids as possible from every walk of life. He went out of his way to ensure that his players had a ride to and from practice, a glove, spikes, a uniform, and a trip to the concession stand after the game. Mike’s gauge of success were the things that could not be kept in a scorebook; he used baseball as an opportunity to develop young men into positive members of this community. He was a man of strong faith and his values were evident in how he interacted with all. Walking up our complex driveway will be very different this year, as Mike was always the first one there to greet you and the one who stayed to clean up and turn off the lights when the game was over. His smiling face which never missed an opportunity to tell a story became as much a part of our complex as strikes and balls. His dedication to our league and our community will never be matched. The spring of 2020 was a very uncertain time for little league baseball in our community due to the impact of Covid. During that time our community rallied around our league and our children and continued to sponsor and donate without hesitation, not knowing what the outcome of the season would bring. Almost 9 months later Covid continues to impact our community in many different ways.... We ask you to remember that many of the businesses, restaurants, and organizations that sponsor our league are local family owned. The financial impact that each has faced and continues to face to this day has been devastating. It is now our turn as a baseball community to support those who have supported us. Over the upcoming days we will be posting the names of those who have sponsored and donated to our league as a sign of our ongoing appreciation and support through this difficult time.
