When installing a direct vent heating appliance, the instructions say to put the vent above anticipated snowfall. Since this event may be higher than what most people would consider anticipated for our area, you may need to expose the vent pipes of your water heater or furnace to keep them working. If they do become covered and you find yourself without heat, turn off the power to the appliance, clear the vents, turn the power back on and the appliance should re-light automatically
