Historical Society of Perry County 01.05.2021

Please folks, if anyone can help come to the New Bloomfield meeting tomorrow evening. Pennsylvania Odd Fellows to Historical Society of Perry County 8m www.glpaioof.org... Well, Tomorrow is the day that the fate of one of the oldest organizations in Perry County is decided. Again, tomorrow at the New Bloomfield Borough meeting, I will be discussing what it would take to keep the local Odd Fellows lodge, Mackinaw Lodge #380 alive. In it's simplicity, it will take five people. I'm hoping Perry County can step up to the plate to allow this 170+ year organization to continue. Our mission statement is to elevate the character of mankind. Our teachings are friendship, love & truth. We need these today more than ever! Please consider how important it is to keep this Lodge alive! I hope to see you tomorrow night. If you cannot attend the meeting, but would be interested in joining, you can email me at [email protected] or call Justin at 717-944-7419. Boro meeting info: The center for local government is located at 25 East McClure St. Council consists of a 7 member board with an election every 2 years. The monthly meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM unless otherwise advertised.

We asked you to help us name the two stone lions that greet visitors at the Perry County Bicentennial Plaza and close to 500 names were submitted! It wasn’t ea...sy to choose from so many great submissions, but our panel of judges selected Hazard and Huckleberry as the winning names. Hazard is named after naval hero and Perry County namesake Oliver Hazard Perry and Huckleberry is named for the 1300-year-old box huckleberry that grows near New Bloomfield. Congrats to Pamela W. of Rye Township and Debbie W. of Carroll Township for being our winners! As winners, each will receive $150 courtesy of The Bank Of Landisburg.
