Ireland Institute of Pittsburgh 22.01.2021

The Ireland Institute of Pittsburgh is shocked and saddened to hear of the recent passing of NORMAN HOUSTON. Mr. Houston was a champion for peace and reconciliation and a great friend to the Institute. As deputy director of the Northern Ireland bureau in the 1990s and then director there until just last year, Norman’s door was open. He lobbied hard for Pittsburgh’s International Fund for Ireland Programs and for the Walsh Visa. He arranged many important meetings on Capitol Hill and in Belfast, promoting our mission for peace, reconciliation and regeneration. Most recently, Norman appeared in Pittsburgh in February of 2019 as the featured guest of the Pittsburgh Ireland Forum. He will be dearly missed by board and staff. May he rest in peace.

Sean Reynolds was a member of one of our Walsh Visa programs. The Walsh Visa gave young unemployed people from the North of Ireland and border counties of the Republic the opportunity to live and work in Pittsburgh for 3 years. Jim Lamb recently caught up with Sean for the next in our "Let's meet" series. https://youtu.be/s_z0hTkc6ak For more info about the IIP or our programs, contact (412) 394-3900

Andy Kennedy is from the Shankill Rd. area of Belfast. He’s an artist and graphic designer working with the Royal Mail, the Belfast Airport, and various clients in greater Belfast. He owes his success to the print shop work experience he got in PITTSBURGH in 1992. https://youtu.be/j9EiSuRPRvc For more info about the IIP and our programs, contact us at [email protected] or 412-394-3900

A terrific briefing from His Excellency, Daniel Mulhall, Ireland’s Ambassador to the US on Irish American Affairs, the impact of Covid 19 and Brexit on Ireland, and his country’s reliance on its US diaspora.
