Here's a reminder to do your part in helping to maintain the trails:
Families are enjoying the StoryWalk in Henrys Forge! Stop by anytime during the day to read, walk, and watch the birds feed. Start at our mailbox 400 Belfast Road, Nazareth. The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. #StoryWalk #JEEC
We are not able to loan snowshoes today due to staffing issues. Snowshoes will be available again at 8:30am on Monday if there is still at least 6 inches of snow cover on the ground. You can check our snow levels online: dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WinterReport We apologize for the inconvenience.
Jacobsburg Road over the Bushkill Creek between Belfast Road and State Park Road will close for bridge repairs on February 1, 2021. We do not know how long PennDOT expects this closure to last. Please follow the detour signs to drive between the Northwest and Southeast sides of the Center. Hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders can use the Connector Trail and the Jacobsburg Trail bridge over Engler's Run to connect between the two sides of the Center. All questions and concerns regarding this project can be directed to PennDOT at customercare.penndot.gov
The visitor center parking lot is plowed and we are open to loan snowshoes. Use caution on the roads. Check Monday's post for borrowing procedures Other plowed parking lots include Boulton Gate H1, Henrys Woods Gate B6, Sobers Run Gate B11, Fehr & Jacobsburg Roads Gate J3.

We’re expecting snow this week! Here’s what to expect with our snowshoe loan program: We will only loan snowshoes on Thursday the 17th from 9:00am-2:30pm if we have at least 6 inches of snow on the ground and our parking lots are finished being plowed. You can check our snow total online before you leave home: dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WinterReport We are unable to loan this Friday or the weekend due to staffing issues. One member of your party must come to the front desk of th...e visitor center with a face mask, cell phone number, and state issued ID for collateral to sign out the equipment for your group. The group leader should also know the general weight range of each group member ahead of time. Snowshoes are fit by body weight, not shoe size. All other group members are encouraged to wait outside or in your vehicle if possible. After our staff receive the information about your group you will be asked to wait outside while we get your equipment ready for you. We will call the cell phone number you provided when the equipment is ready and waiting for you at a designated location outside. You will go to that location with your group to retrieve and fit the snowshoes. If you need assistance a staff member will come to the window to help you put on the snowshoes over the phone. For this reason we recommend you watch this instructional video ahead of time: youtube.com/watch?v=LsLZYX5bqws If another group is in the area fitting their shoes, you will be asked to wait at a distance until they are done. We have a limited amount of equipment and it is loaned out on a first-come, first-served basis. All equipment must be returned by 3:30pm. Please be patient as we help to make sure you have a fun outdoor experience from a safe distance! See more
Our partners at the Jacobsburg Historical Society have canceled their event this weekend.
Check out the new StoryWalk at Jacobsburg! A StoryWalk is a trail that has pages of a story book posted along the way so that you can read a story while you enjoy a self-guided walk. This trail is easy, and the story is best for families with young children. At the end of the walk is a wildlife feeding station where you and your little ones can observe birds and maybe even get your picture with one! Bring your camera and sense of wonder, we’ll provide the bird seed. Start the walk at our mailbox/Gate B7 across the street from the visitor center at 400 Belfast Road Nazareth. The walk is 1/3 of a mile on flat ground. #storywalk
Thank you Troop 74 of Bushkill Township for the donation of the large-scale maps for teaching orienteering with our school students and public programs. It is a BIG help to have maps that go with our oversized model compass!
