Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our League has been working hard to meet our community’s needs. This National Volunteer Week, we send a huge thank you to the amazing Members whose brave and selfless work is making an impact. At the Junior League of Wilkes Barre, our work has not stopped, and with adjustments made for the safety of our Members, our League is setting an inspiring example of the monumental importance of voluntarism in times of unrest. Thank you, Members! #JLBetterTogether #JuniorLeague #NationalVolunteerWeek #JLWB

We imagine a world where it is the norm to have stories and milestones of ALL women woven into the core of Women’s History Month. Outlining a Women's History Month for all schools that is more inclusive of women of color would teach students that all women can be leaders, regardless of race, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background. As they learn this important lesson, their confidence will only grow and their dreams will only get bigger. "I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept." -Angela Y. Davis As we close out Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we commend all Junior Leagues and their community partners who are working year-round to bring awareness to this important issue and to empower and support survivors. https://www.ajli.org/?nd=p-do-comm-ip-dom-violence #DVAM2020 #DVAM #JLBetterTogether #JLWB
The best prevention is early detection! Honor your mother, daughters, sisters, friends...remind them to have a mammogram. It takes 5 minutes to schedule. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth2020 #JLWB
Your Vote is Your Voice. There are unique barriers to voting experienced by survivors of intimate partner violence. From fear of potential retaliation to privacy concerns, some survivors face a unique set of obstacles that prevent them from making their voices heard at the voting booth. Since 1999, the state of California has run the Safe at Home program to ensure that victims of domestic violence and human trafficking have a mailing address that enables them to vote by mail confidentially. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Intimate partner violence affects millions of people in the United States and around the world each year. Data from the CDC’s National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) indicate that in the U.S., about 1 in 4 women and nearly 1 in 10 men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime. Join us throughout the month as we share information and resources about this important issue. #DVAM2020 #DVAM #JLBetterTogether #JLWB

Among women who were eligible to vote in the 2016 presidential election, more than one third (37%) did not cast a ballot. In the 2018 midterm election, almost half (45%) of eligible women did not vote. We can do better! Please be sure you’re registered to vote today. September 22 is National Voter Registration Day! Visit vote.gov today to register or confirm your voter status. #Vote2020 #JuniorLeague #JLWB
Women belong in all places where decisions are being made-RBG We are saddened to hear about the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She changed the way the world is for American women, and we will remember her as a tireless champion of justice and gender inequality. #RBG #JLWB #JuniorLeague #whentherearenine

Let’s celebrate Women’s Equality Day and commemorate the centennial of the 19th Amendment by learning about the Black suffragists whose courage, tenacity and contributions have been long overlooked or omitted from standard history books. Take some time today and read about Ida B. Wells, Mary Church Terrell, Fannie Barrier Williams, Mary Ann Shadd Cary, Sarah Parker Remond, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, and countless other pioneers who did not accept exclusion from White suffrage and who recognized the intersectionality of race, class, and sex. #JLBetterTogether #JuniorLeague #WomensEqualityDay #JLWB https://www.2020centennial.org/learn
