Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that. - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968), from his 1963 book, Strength to Love.

Merry Christmas from the singers, staff, and board of the Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh! Have a safe and happy holiday! For it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child himself. -Charles Dickens (1812-1870), _A Christmas Carol_

We, along with The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh are thrilled to premiere Pulitzer Prize-nominated composer Roger Ames’ A Time for Healing, the first movement of his new work, Symphony for the Pandemic. The lyrics come from Kitty O’Meara’s viral poem And The People Stayed Home, expressing our shared desire to make the most of every moment and powerfully tapping into our dreams for a post-pandemic world filled with hope, not fear. Watch now: https://youtu.be/ioGfcek0TWs Fe...aturing members of both the MCP and the JMCP, as well as singers who expressed an interest in auditioning for the MCP this season, we embraced this opportunity to learn new technology and explore a new way to connect musically, despite the limitations of social distancing protocols. We hope you find encouragement and solace in this beautiful ode to the resilience of the human spirit. We invite you to join us in heeding the call to use the opportunities and learnings of the current moment to rethink how we connect more deeply with ourselves and with each other. Enjoy.

Coming soon: our first virtual performance! Along with the The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, we are thrilled to premiere Pulitzer Prize-nominated composer Roger Ames', "A Time for Healing"; the first movement of his new work, Symphony for the Pandemic. It takes the lyrics from Kitty O'Meara's viral poem And The People Stayed Home, to express our shared experience of making the most of every moment and powerfully tapping into our dreams for a post-pandemic world filled with... hope, not fear. Featuring members of both the MCP and JMCP, plus the singers who expressed an interest in auditioning for the MCP this season, we embraced this opportunity to learn new technology and explore a new way to connect musically, despite the limitations of social distancing protocols. Stay tuned for the release of this premiere performance, coming soon to our website and social media pages!

Happy Hanukkah from everyone at the Junior Mendelssohn Choir! But I also say this: that light is an invitation to happiness, and that happiness, when it’s done right, is a kind of holiness, palpable and redemptive. - Mary Oliver (1935-2019)
