Wellness Wednesday has come upon us yet again and today we want to talk to you about sitting all day. Most of us do itwe sit in the car, at work, in the car again, in meetings, at home on the couch.ALL DAY. We may go to the gym a couple days or nights a week. We think it is helpingbut is it? Recent research says it might not be enough. Sitting too much and/or too long is linked to several health risks including heart failure, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, ex...cess body fat around the waist, high cholesterol and even depression. Combat these issues with movement. Try to get up and walk around the office at least once per hour, do desk or wall push ups, stand when you are on the phone or when you are eating lunch, set a phone alarm to do stretches, walk your trash to another trash can, try a standing desk, or you can drink more water and have an excuse to have to use the restroom more often. Our last tip for the holidays is travel safety. Whether you are driving home from a family member’s house or leaving town for a vacation, here are few tips to keep in mind: Check the local weather and destination weather. Have roadside assistance information on hand. Have a cell phone charger with you in case of an emergency. Keep valuables out of sight by putting them in the trunk or under a blanket. Leave yourself PLENTY of time to get where you need to go. There can be many different things to delay a tight schedule such as weather, accidents or airport security (especially during the holidays). Above all else, stay calm and cool. Here are some helpful tips for eating during the holidays: Bring a healthy dish to the party. Using smaller plates when dishing out your favorite treats can trick your mind into thinking there is more than there is! Don’t go to any party on an empty stomach. Eat a small snack beforehand. After a lot of conversation with my staff, we have made the decision as a group to remain closed for the remainder of the year. This was an incredibly difficult decision to make but we feel it is in the best interest of both employees and clients. As we make the phone calls to get everyone rescheduled for the new year, we are so grateful for your understanding and support. Hearing the stories f...rom our frontline healthcare workers as well as from clients who have lost loved ones over the last few weeks brings tears to our eyes and lets us know that we are making the right decision for us and you. To those of you that have been affected by Covid, we hear you, we see you and our hearts are with you. Oh and on a positive note, our staff member was NEGATIVE! We are sad to say that we will be closed the remainder of the week. It feels like Covid is striking closer and closer to home. Everywhere we turn someone we know is being affected. As we wait for the results of one of our staff members, we are in touch with the Department Of Health for guidance on the best and safest way to proceed. In the event that the results are positive, we will be making the necessary adjustments to our schedules. Please know that this staff member is ...ok, just feeling under the weather. As our clients, you know that we take the precautions seriously that are given to us by the CDC and State Board of Cosmetology. And it is because of this, the Department of Health feels like the risk is not to the clients so much, but to the staff. Just Wellness's goal has always been to provide you and our staff with a safe place to work and receive your favorite services. This week’s holiday tip is about decorating safely. When decorating your home this season, here are a few tips for your safety: When you are not home or are sleeping, unplug your Christmas tree. Make sure candles are blown out before bed and are out of reach of children, trees, curtains or any other flammable items. Make sure your chimney has been properly checked and cleaned before use. Check your lights to make sure there are no frayed wires or broken bulbs. And don’t be afraid to ask for help when hanging things that are out of your reach. Have a happy safe holiday!
