"I saw that the fencing was really old and decaying, so I thought, maybe they could use a little help," Jordan Hoyt said. A member of Troop 2025 in Richland. Hoyt led a team of Scouts and adult volunteers to fix fencing, build new picnic tables, and create three owl boxes for Stackhouse Park. Kudos to Jordan for a job well done! Congratulations! #EagleScout #LHCScouting #ThisIsScouting ... https://wjactv.com//eagle-scout-project-leads-to-improveme

The Little Conemaugh River was stocked with fish in Cambria County on Saturday afternoon, March 20, 2021. Volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 2251 and Cub Scout Pack 51 released trout from the Route 53 Bridge in Wilmore to the breast of the Wilmore Dam. The Wilmore Sportsman’s Club raises about 8,000 of these trout every year, according to Marlin Minor, a long-time member of the club. It’s a lot of work, and it’s all volunteer work. We have a great group of guys that are doing it, he said. They helped us load the fish at the hatchery this morning, and they’re out on the creek stocking the fish. From what I understand, they’re having a good time, Minor said.

Tree planting help wanted. Chestnut Ridge and Keystone Districts have a need for Earth Day (April 22) tree planting coordinators. Tree planting location will be on the Ghost Town Trail at the pavilion along the trail near the Eliza Furnace in Vintondale. The coordinator will need to be able to coordinate four or more volunteers to help plant their district’s tree at the pavilion. The Chestnut Ridge District coordinator will also coordinate with Ed Patterson of Indiana County ...Parks and Trails (which controls the site) to arrange for preliminary preparation of the ground. Coordinators will also arrange for media (both print and electronic) coverage of the event. Coordinators may decide to plant their trees at the same time or separately depending on what they feel is best and media availability. For more information or to volunteer please contact Kenan Kevenk at 814 533-1646 or by email at [email protected].

Recruit More Cub Scouts with Learn How to Camp The COVID-19 Pandemic has made it harder for us to recruit new Scouts. But fear not! A group of LHC volunteers is... working hard to provide you with a new tool in your recruiting toolbox: Learn How to Camp! The need for social distancing has caused many families to skip their regular vacation plans and try camping for the first time. Being first timers, though, they lack outdoor skills, and many didn’t have much fun. Scouts to the rescue! Our outdoor skills are legendary, so why not use them to attract new families to our program? Reserve your local park or playground now for spring recruiting! The guidebook, promotional materials, and a registration web page are being quickly developed for use in early spring of 2021. Learn How to Camp What it is: A supplement to your units’ regular recruiting program A guide for packs and troops to use together to aid in recruiting Roughly 3 hours in length, but flexible to meet your needs A non-traditional new-Scout recruiting opportunity Local, Local, Local A program that can be done in YOUR TOWN, near YOUR MEETING PLACE A fun opportunity for PARENTS and KIDS to learn skills and have fun Free to participants Minimal expenses paid by local units (You probably already have much of what you’ll need. Let us know if you need help.) Developed by volunteers for volunteers Learn How to Camp What it isn’t: A council program A trip out of town to a camp Day Camp / Camporee / Etc. An overnight camping opportunity (NOTE: Laurel Highlands Council will have two family camp opportunities during the summer. Families who decide to join Scouting will have a great opportunity to try out their new camping skills in a safe, friendly environment!)
