Oksana DeArment, the Executive Director of the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, is shown receiving a donation for the United Way from our Kiwanis club. The check was presented by President Alice Arnold. Oksana also spoke to our club about some of the things the United Way is doing. We were especially impressed with "The Nurses Pantry" program which supplies in-school resources for elementary-aged children living in poverty.
Dina Zug was our guest speaker during the February 19 meeting. She spoke about her love of dairy farming, the role of dairy farming in PA, and the history of their family's farm, Zugstead Farm.
This is a photo of President Alice Arnold presenting a check to Glenda Foltz the Executive Director of the Juniata County Food Pantry. The money will help the Food Pantry to continue to do its outstanding work in our community.
Our club members who volunteered to helped the Boy Scouts with the Klondike Derby.
Each year our club spends a day ringing bells for the Salvation Army. The first photo is from the front page of The Sentinel newspaper showing members Jerry Ranck and Bob Gill working the bells and Fred Zimmerman making a donation. The second photo from Deb Brackbill at The Times shows Alice Arnold and Helen Casner ringing for donations to the Salvation Army.
We had a fun Christmas celebration at our meeting last night. A highlight was the dancing of these young women from Studio 32.
A photo of most of the Kiwanis family crew that help the Food Pantry with the Thanksgiving food distribution on November 23.
The November 25 edition of the Lewistown Sentinel newspaper published a photo of people involved in the food distribution on Saturday, November 23. The caption lists our Kiwanis Club is described as being responsible for this wonderful event. That's not true. The Food Pantry of Juniata County was largely responsible and our Kiwanis Club was pleased to be a partner in bringing meals to 260 families. The caption should have given the Food Pantry its due credit for their great work. To their credit, the Sentinel corrected the caption in the Setting It Straight section on page A7 of today's paper.
On Saturday, 11/23, the Kiwanis Club of Juniata County partnered with the Juniata County Food Pantry to distributed turkeys and Thanksgiving meal fixings. On the night before, the volunteers pictured helped to load 250 boxes with canned goods, stuffing, apples and bananas and such that were given out with the turkeys the following morning.
During Kiwanis Week of Reading, our members went to Head Starts and read to the kids. We also donated books. Pictured are Robbie Cavanaugh, Kirsten Cavanaugh, and Rich Burkholder.
Here are photos from the painting party that we held on November 2. Everyone had a great time. Judy Mummau was an excellent instructor so all painters produced something that they could be proud of.
Join us for a great time and a nice painting.
