Knick Knack Pittie Pack Dog Rescue

Keelo is resting well <3 He allowed me to put the ointment on his eye with no issue... he ate his dinner well... he tore a Wubba apart with great pride... he seems to completely be himself, aside from his eye being a little swollen and watery... The mass he was to have removed today that ruptured a while back has since disappeared... Dr John found no signs of it today (I have not been able to either)... his blood work showed that his thyroid is fine... and his Heartworm/Lyme... test was negative!!! (Remember... he had Heartworms pretty bad when we got him last year and we put him through treatment). Praying that his healing happens quickly & without incident... next step for him is to undergo a Cushing's test... we are trying to figure out why he keeps gaining weight... I am counting his kCals and still gained 2 lb :( Love this big guy with my whole heart <3

This is a post that I never wanted to make... I knew that I would have to someday but was hoping it would not be for a very long time... Today we said, "Until we meet again" to our beautiful Kira :'( Kira was the flagship of Knick Knack Pittie Pack... she is the one that started it all... without her, I would never have started advocating for the Pit Bull types on FB, where I found Skippy... she & Skippy together were the inspiration behind Knick Knack...... Kira had mast cell tumors removed three times in her 12 years, beginning at age 4... she was a fighter and made it through so many things... but heart disease/failure took her from us before we were ready to let her go... Kira was our protector... she had to be first to check everything out in the morning and last to check it out at night... she had to let every delivery person know that she was here and they better remember that... this was HER house and we were HER family... but she never hurt a fly... She was a gentle soul and had a nurturing instinct... she saw me through my migraines and cuddled Devon when he was sick when he was younger... she let me know whenever there was an injured bird or baby bunny in our yard and stood over it to protect it until I picked it up & found a box or a cage for it to recover in... she watched over Petey Puppy when he came with a broken leg, making sure he was always doing well.. She was Daddy's girl but when Skippy left us on Christmas Eve of 2018, Kira became my shadow... I think she knew my pain and wanted to make sure I was okay... she was the best cuddler... she never left my side when I was in bed sick, even for days... she was amazing in every single way <3 Kira's absence will be felt by everyone here, as well as by volunteers who knew her... our house already feels empty... our hearts are hurting but hers is not... and that is what matters... she no longer has trouble breathing... she no longer has legs that slip out from under her... she is whole again, running & jumping across that Rainbow Bridge and I know she will be there to greet us, at the head of the pack, when we get there one day <3 Kira, you forever changed our lives and so many pups are alive today because of you... please tell all of the others that we still think of them and miss them every day... and know that you will always be in our hearts and we will continue on, saving each one in your honor... we love you, Kiki Girl <3

Our amazingly handsome Elvis went to the vet today and is doing SO well!! We have been struggling to get Elvis healthy for over two years now... tummy issues resulting in x-rays & ultrasounds... trying different foods and treats... also dealt with skin issues/allergies... all seems well now, though <3 Elvis got his vaccinations, Heartworm/Lyme test, full exam, blood work and preventatives... Just can't believe how awesome and gorgeous this boy is... love you, Elvis <3

Our split-unit has arrived!! Now we are in need of some certified/licensed to hook it up for us. We already have the wire run to the building... just need an expert to help us with proper placement and final connection. Potter finished up his vaccinations on Monday and got a good look-over from Dr Becker... his hair is growing back, his paws are not swollen & sore, his ears are clear & healthy-looking... this little boy, who would growl and sometimes lunge when you touched his ears, tail or feet , even got his nails trimmed while there!!! I was so very proud of him that I cried... yes, I cried... he has come SO far since we got him in December and we couldn't be happier with his progress... now that he is not in pain, his true personality is shining through <3 We love you, Potter-Potts <3

Handsome little Sprout is ready to find his forever home <3 Sprout does take a little time to warm up to new people, especially males. Loud noises frighten him until he gets used to his surroundings. He NEEDS another dog in the home... another dog helps him feel confident in himself. He loves children so respectful children in the home is a plus <3 He is scheduled for neuter in June and will need to be given Ivermectin daily for 4 more weeks for his Demodex so his approv...ed adopter(s) will need to continue giving that to him (we will provide). So he will be in foster-to-adopt until 7-10 days after his neuter in June. During this foster-to-adopt period, we will continue to provide everything for him (food, treats, blankets, collar, leash, harness, bowls, toys, crate, monthly preventatives, vet care, Ivermectin). Our sweet little Lionel is in need of a new foster home or an adopter <3 Lionel's foster home is a little more chaotic than he appreciates :( There are several other dogs and cats and he really needs a home where he is one of two or three, whether it be dogs or cats or a combo... Lionel would do best in a home with no small children as well, as he does become protective over "his" person. This precious pup is around 13 years old and he does have a heart murmur... we will ...be taking him to see a cardiologist in Leesburg, VA in May to see just how severe it is and what we need to be doing to help him with it. If you, or someone you know, would like to take Lionel into your home & family for foster care, please let us know. And if you aren't a good fit for him, please share him <3

Happy Sunday Funday from our beautiful & super-sweet Ruby <3 Ruby is doing great in her foster home :) She loves her foster Momma and human foster sister and thinks her foster fur-brother, Odie, is wonderful & fun to play with but she is totally obsessed with her foster Dad <3 (And I think it's safe to say he is just as obsessed with her <3) And she is now up-to-date on all vaccinations and is done with her vetting except for her spay & microchip, which is scheduled for... May 12th. She is simply perfect and we are so glad she found her way to Knick Knack <3

He had a smile that could light up the world ... and a personality like no other <3 We had to say, "Until we meet again" to our wonderful Zip this evening :'( Zip was one of our personal dogs and has been having some health issues for a while now, as previous posts have talked about... and he was on meds for seizures but it became obvious to us yesterday that he needed us to make the right decision for him... so we did. This decision is never an easy one and never one that... we make in haste... and we always do what is best for them, no matter how much it hurts our hearts and how big of a hole it leaves in them... this is never about us, it's about them <3 We took him to McD's for chicken nuggets, a plain McDouble and a small order of fries before his 5:30pm appointment today. We told him how much we love him and how joyful it was to have him in our lives... we told him that we would miss him but we wanted him to be pain-free, happy & healthy... and we knew he couldn't hear a word that we were saying to him but it's okay... we know that he left this world knowing exactly how much he means to us and how much we will always love him... and that our lives are better because we got to share them with him <3 He fell asleep for the last time with his head resting on his Dad's sweatshirt as a pillow, while his Dad stroked his fur and told him he was sorry and he loves him so very much... I was on his other side, gently petting his beautiful face... he knew we were there with him until the very end... And now we know that Zip is with his first Dad, Charles, and they will be able to be together again, enjoying each other's company until we get there to join them someday <3 Fly high, sweetest Zip... you will be thought of often, always with love & laughter <3

So the special food for Lakota, Kalea, Lady, Cole & Keelo came in this week and they all started their new feeding regimen on Wednesday :) I have all of the kcals figured for each pup's weight and included treats & Fresh Pet as an additive... so far, so good! Everyone seems to really love the food, which is saying A LOT!! We will be doing bi-weekly weigh-ins and I will post the results so we can all watch together and see how this works for our overweight pups <3 Thank you again to Darryl & Craig for providing the food/funds for the first 5 weeks <3

LYNDON UPDATE <3 Lyndon does NOT have Cushing's Disease and there were no masses/tumors to be found in her ultrasound!! So Dr Becker feels it's an infection and/or inflammation in her liver and is putting her on antibiotics and a liver supplement... we will then recheck her liver values in 30 days.... Thank you so very much for the love, prayers & positive thoughts you sent her way <3

Our super handsome senior boy, Rusty, had his annual vet visit today :) He got his vaccinations, physical exam, nail trim, Heartworm/Lyme test and geriatric bloodwork... Dr John said his heart and lungs sound good :) His blood work looks great! He came back positive for Ehrlichia but he always has... so he is in fantastic shape, especially for being 15 years old!! And of course he got to go to BK for nuggets AND a plain cheeseburger afterwards... just love this guy <3... Thank you so much to Trish, Britt & Rachel for sponsoring Rusty's vet visit <3

Sweet Roxanne had her Lepto booster yesterday :) She is such a good girl... she was mesmerized by a brown miniature poodle in the car next door who kept barking at her... LOL!
