On this date, 19 years ago, the view in the first picture did not exist. Blocking this beautiful view were two towers. One was 1,368 feet tall and the other was 1,362 feet tall, and built in 1973 were considered the tallest buildings in the world. Both were destroyed in the 2001 9/11 terrorist attacks. Today on the 19th anniversary of those attacks, we take the time to remember. We remember the two planes hitting the towers. We remember the smoke billowing out over NYC. We re...member the plane that hit the Pentagon. We remember the plane that crashed in the field in Somerset County, PA, and those heroes who thwarted another building being struck. Nearly 3,000 people died that day. 2,753 in New York, 184 at the Pentagon, and 40 in PA. FDNY lost 343 Firefighters. NYPD lost 23 Police Officers. Responders from all over the United States came to help. Since that day in 2001, 156 Police Officers have died due to exposure, and so have 182 Firefighters. We are still feeling the pain that we felt on that day. We remember. We will stand united as a country against terrorism. And we will never forget. See more
