Rachel shared the experience of welcoming her 5th baby at Lifecycle WomanCare during the pandemic, including masks, smiling eyes, and a couple unexpected twists and turns. What really stands out in her story is the sense of calm she felt while laboring and the gentle way she welcomed baby Elizabeth into the world. Here's an expert in her own words: "I stood up and started swaying. Lots of low voice moaning. My husband swayed with me. I was starting to panic a bit, and he re...minded me to hum and relax my face. So thankful for that reminder! It really does help! Around 4:55 am, the nurse came in and put some pillows on the counter top and told me to lean forward. I thought it was odd, but I did it. When I leaned forward my water broke the rest of the way with an audible pop, and a huge gush of clear water that landed on my husband’s socks! I looked at the clock and it was 5:01 am. My husband got on the phone and paged 'Midwife to the blue room!'" Read Rachel's full story here: https://bit.ly/39OByeL Do you want to share your LWC birth story? Today we're sharing some helpful info from the Infant Risk Center about the COVID vaccine for people who are currently pregnant and/or breastfeeding: Their bolded statements, copied below, may be helpful as you consider vaccination. As for breastfeeding, little or none of these vaccine components would ever reach the milk compartment, or even be transferred into human milk. Even if they were, they would simply be digested like any other protein by the infant. It is our opi...nion, that the present group of vaccines are probably going to be quite safe for breastfeeding mothers. The infant may even gain a small amount of maternal IgG in the breastmilk, which may even be beneficial. At this point, since many of the new vaccines do not contain live viruses and are not infectious, the InfantRisk Center supports the opinion from the SMFM and ACOG that most Covid-19 vaccines are probably safe for pregnant women. Ultimately, the risk of infection in that patient, must be weighted again the probable minimal risk of the vaccine. You can read the full article here: https://www.infantrisk.com/covid-19-vaccine-pregnancy-and-b In other lactation related news, we are hosting THREE virtual lactation support groups this week. Join with other new parents to chat about the joys and challenges of breastfeeding this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 10:00am. Email LWC Programs Coordinator, Nikki, for the Zoom login info at [email protected]. We also have availability for lactation consultations this week! Give us a call at 610.525.6086 to schedule with an appointment with one of our delightful IBCLCs

To further ensure the health and safety of everyone within our facility, we are now REQUIRING the use of SURGICAL face masks for all partners of laboring clients. Lifecycle WomanCare will provide the masks and they must be worn the entire time you are in the building, even when a care provider is not in the room with you. While partners are always welcome to attend prenatal visits virtually, we also strongly encourage partners to attend ALL visits via FaceTime or Zoom starti...ng at 36 weeks. This will give partners the opportunity to ask questions, get to know more about our practice, and become familiar with our COVID-19 guidelines prior to arriving for the labor and birth. Thank you for your cooperation in this essential matter. Be a part of Lifecycle WomanCare’s mission to train the next generation of midwives. In 2014 we established our highly-sought after Midwifery Fellowship program. Midwifery Fellows work alongside experienced staff midwives during the 6-month program. They receive mentoring that helps bridge the transition from graduation to independent practice and allow us to help meet the increased demand for midwifery care and better serve our clients. Your year-end gift to LWC will allow... us the opportunity to expand our program and train more local midwives in birth center care. It is with mixed emotions that we announce that one of our most loyal pediatricians, Dr. Wenonah Nelson, has retired after 40 years in practice and 30 years of partnership with Lifecycle WomanCare. Words cannot fully express how thankful we are to Dr. Nelson for her tireless dedication over the last three decades. She will truly be missed at LWC and we wish her all the best on her next chapter. We are celebrating #NationalMidwiferyWeek at Lifecycle WomanCare! Yesterday, the US House of Representatives issued a Congressional Resolution in commemoration this special week. The resolution recognizes midwives "for their service providing high-quality and evidence-based reproductive health care to people across the lifespan". This is a very timely resolution during a year that has been full of uncertainty. 2020 has been designated as the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife,... and the trials of 2020 have certainly demonstrated the importance of midwives again and again. We hope you will join us in the celebration.
