Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a program designed to provide books to local children from birth through 5 years old. The LVSD Foundation has been affiliated with the Imagination Library for several years now to provide books to the local learners! The LVSD Foundation is performing a fundraising campaign along with a big announcement from the Imagination Library! See below for details.... Big Announcement! Exclusive Worldwide Facebook Premiere of "The Library That Dolly Built" documentary on Dec. 9, at 7 PM EST with a Live performance and Q&A session from Dolly Parton! In addition, the European premiere will be Thursday, December 10 at 7 PM GMT. Renowned actress, writer and politician, Baroness Floella Benjamin, DBE, will be on hand to kick off the evening. The Australian premiere will be Friday, December 11 at 7 PM AEDT, with the multi-award-winning husband and wife duo O’Shea introducing the film. We hope all are doing well in these difficult times. We just wanted to provide an update on an important project the LVSD Foundation has undertaken. We were contacted last week regarding the possibility of underwriting the cost of "Grab and Go" Breakfast/Lunch food bags for learners in the Cook Township area. As you know, the Governor on March 13th ordered all schools in Pennsylvania closed. The District immediately applied for the Grab and Go Program. Five sites were appro...ved, the furthest south being Waterford Fire Hall. Cook Township was not deemed a poverty area by the approving agency, but we know many learners 18 and younger are food insecure. The Foundation agreed to underwrite the weekday distribution of food at the Cook Twp Community Center from the KidzKare Fund. The daily cost is $2.50 per learner or $12.50 weekly. Wednesday, March 25th, was the first distribution of 21 food bags followed on Thursday with an increase to 31 bags. It is expected this number will increase. How can you help? Funds will be needed to replenish the KidzKare Fund. Donations can be made online on our website (www.lvsdfoundation.org) or by check to the LVSDFOUNDATION at 120 East Main Street, Ligonier, 15650. The program will continue for all six sites in the district as long as the Governor orders. Please see posted hours for daily pickup. In addition, the regular Friday distribution of Food2go4Kids food bags for pre-qualified learners will continue during the school closure. Distribution will follow the Summer Program format. Parents can pick up a food bag at either Laurel Valley Elementary School or the Middle School on FRIDAY's from 10am-2pm. The cost of this program is also underwritten by the Foundation. Each bag of sixteen items costs eight dollars. How can you help? Donations can be made to the LVSDFOUNDATION.
