Greetings! I'm with Eddyline and I wanted to bring up an important and urgent issue for paddlers in Washington, USA. This morning we became aware of a bill in... the legislature that would make it illegal to kayak, canoe or sup, unless one: - Takes a state-approved motorboat education training course - Passes a motorboat education test - Purchases a boater education card from the state. The bill would also limit paddlesport participation for youth under 12 unless they are under "close supervision" of an adult over 16 with a boater education card. I'm a big supporter of kayak safety, but this bill does not further the cause of safe paddling. It also unfairly reduces access to kayaking among Washington citizens and sets a poor precedent for other states. Eddyline, working with retailers and the NMTA, are working to make our opposition to this measure heard. Not going to preach, but, BUYER BE AWARE! At a state park yesterday, as soon as my wife and I launched, I observed a kayaker in the water, he was hanging on... to his kayak and his partners, she was trying to paddle both of them in to shore and the wind was working against them, they were a good 100 yards away from the nearest lake side. Long story short, he just bought this Old Town sot on top, kayak from a listing on Craigslist, this was his first time out with it, as he was paddling, it began filling up with water, before he new it, it was listing too much to stay upright and he tipped into the water. He was a bigger built guy, unable to pull himself up and his PDF was strapped neatly on the top of the front of his kayak. We threw him a float cushion and used my bag rope to secure to tow him in. Lessons to be Learned, anything can swamp and flip, also, until you have confidence in your equipment, wear your PDF!!! The good news is he wasn't in the water very long as the waters are getting chillies and he and his partner are safe. See more

Water runable today from Mahaffey to Curwensville dam. Curwensville civic center to maybe Shawville. Maybe Deer Creek. Maybe downriver tomorrow. Hasn't hit Karthaus yet.
