Merion Square Scout House 22.12.2020

Today is Giving Tuesday!!! #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving to support nonprofit organizations like the Scout House. https://www.paypal.com/donate/... The Merion Square Scout House is raising funds to repaint and revitalize the building's exterior AND to provide jobs for those searching for work. This benefits our not only our Gladwyne community but by moving forward with this work now, we hope to provide meaningful work to people who have lost their jobs. Please help us! There are charitable giving incentives in 2020 as part of the CARES Act, including a new deduction available of up to $300 per taxpayer ($600 for a married couple) in annual charitable contributions for those that take the standard deduction and do not itemize their deductions. For individuals and corporations that itemize their deductions, the CARES Act lifts the limitations on charitable contributions by individuals from 60% of adjusted gross income to 100% and for corporations by increasing the limitation from 10% to 25% of taxable income.

Today two Pack 110 dens provided service hours to Philadelphia’s unique nonprofit, Caring for Friends. Scouts leaned about the non profit and assisted with the organization’s efforts. https://caringforfriends.org/ How Caring for Friends helps the region:... The knowledge that there are countless individuals living in the Philadelphia area who are not only hungry and unable to afford food, but also sick and isolated in their homes, without friends and family to help support them, is what inspired the founder of Caring for Friends and continues to inspire the work of volunteers today. Our volunteer visitors meet with client friends throughout the 5-county greater Philadelphia region, providing them with much-needed home-cooked meals. But, more valuable than that, these visitors also nourish our clients with friendship, all free of charge. Caring for Friends volunteers prepare meals that are stored in freezers in over 200 secular and religious organizations and our Caring Center in northeast Philadelphia. From there, volunteer visitors pick up these meals and distribute them in weekly visits with clients. Most of our clients, whom we refer to as our friends, are elderly individuals who could not otherwise remain in their homes without the support of the meals we bring them. Through the generous support of our donors and individual, corporate, and group volunteers, we serve nearly 2,000 homebound friends.
