Make sure the vents for the dryer, furnace, stove, and fireplace are clear of debris and snow. Have your furnace inspected annually. #COPoisoning #COtheSilentKiller #BeSafe
On October 8, 1871, a small fire which started in a barn quickly became the Great Chicago Fire burning nearly 3 square miles and causing upwards of 300 deaths.... While the exact cause of the blaze was never determined, a small weary fire department, poorly constructed wood buildings topped with highly flammable tar, and drought conditions all contributed to the conflagration. As a result, Chicago developed one of the country’s leading fire-fighting forces and rewrote its fire standards. The location of the fire’s origin is now the site of the Chicago Fire Department Training Academy. #FireHistory #NeverForget

At 5:37 PM we were dispatched to Corak Towers 500 Beaver Avenue for a possible structure fire. While arriving on scene smoke was visible on the 5th floor. Calls for assistance from Ohioville, Industry and Shippingport Fire Departments were made. Chief DItri and Capt Hupp along with Midland Police Officer Marcus Little enter the structure and made their way to the 5th floor where they were met with smoke in the hallway. Entry was made into a heavy smoke filled apartment to ...look for possible victims. All three were pushed out of the apartment by the heat and heavy smoke. Chief DItri re-entered the apartment with a fire extinguisher and was able to knock the fire down to a minimum. Officer Little and Capt Hupp went door to door banging on doors to make sure everyone exited their apartments. Crews from Ohioville and Industry arrived and advanced a hose line to extinguish the fire completely. The fire was contained to one room in the apartment. The 4th and 5th floors received some water and smoke damage. All occupants except for 3 apartments were able to return after a couple hours. We can not thank our mutual aid departments enough for their assistance. Midland, Shippingport and Ohioville Police Departments also assisted controlling the scene and for their help in getting people out of the building. Medic Rescue assisted several residents by providing oxygen and stood by for the firefighters safety. No injuries were reported. Great job by all!!!
