Walnut Creek Council members presented a BIG check to the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation in the amount of $1674.30! Students participated in the Spread the Wave campaign by collecting a book of quarters in the first weeks of May. Over one fourth of the school’s student body made these contributions. With the help of an anonymous donor each donation is being matched twice bringing Walnut Creek's contribution to over $5000! Way to go WC!

Jim Conner Memorial Scholarships Awarded Four recent McDowell graduates were the 2013 recipients of the Jim Conner Memorial Scholarship. Each student was awarded $8,000; $2,000.00 per year for no more than four (4) years at the college, university or technical school of their choice. The Jim Conner Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to students selected by Mr. Conner personally. These awards are presented in memory of his son, James A. Conner, a member of the McDowe...ll Class of 1979, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in May of 1977. The funds for these scholarships are provided by the family, relatives, and friends of Jim Conner and are administered by his father. Congratulations to this year’s recipients: Paige Russo, Rory Taylor, Vincent Nientimp and Thomas Englehardt

Congratulations to McDowell’s Gina Spinelli on winning the Fourteenth Annual Italian American Women’s Association Heritage Scholarship! The scholarship is open to all graduating females whose mother or father is of Italian heritage. Applicants also had to show leadership qualities and a strong academic record! Gina earned a $1500 scholarship that she will apply towards her education at John Carroll University next fall! Best of luck to Gina!!!

The Tracy T is once again visible thanks to some dedicated 5th grade gardeners! The students worked hard during our first ever "Tracy Clean-Up Day. They picked up trash, pulled weeds, raked, and cleaned the courtyard! What a lovely entrance for a lovely school!
