Filling the hopper on the corn planter. This six row corn planter can plant about 50 acres per hopper full of seed. The farm is running three different corn planters and the plan is to get in 963 acres of corn this year.

Now to finish the kitchen at the apartment....

Training starts early. She's just wishing she was a bit taller and a bit stronger.

And other duties as required..... This one was more challenging and I needed a little help. This time I was thankful for the rain and Rick helped me.

It's a great morning to cover the bunker. The kids are tired but helping.

Cleanliness is next to godliness.... Every day three times a day we stop milking and wash everything- all the milking equipment and the pipelines the milk goes through. That's the only time you should see this parlor empty.

The other day I picked up a bit of corn seed. In these two totes there are 6,400,000 kernels. Any guesses on how many kernels we plant?

BMR sorghum sudan grass- something else we grow to harvest and feed our cows. We are probably planting about 60 acres of this. We use the grain drill to plant it. This causes minimal disruption of the soil protecting the loss of nutrients and preserving the soil.

The sunsets are amazing! They are the golden finish to busy days and the bright hope for tomorrow.

And other duties as assigned.... This morning I helped deliver two Angus cross calves to their new home. We raise Holsteins which is a dairy breed of cow (the black and white ones). However we selectively utilize some beef breeds in our breeding program and those calves we don't keep. All the beef cross calves get sold. This helps us choose which calves we are keeping. We only have so much room in in our calf housing, just like you can only put a certain number of toddlers in one day care class. This way we can focus our resources on just the Holstein heifer calves and provide the best possible foundation for our milk producing future.
