Breastfeeding and struggling with plugged milk ducts or clogged milk ducts not only prevents the flow of your breast but can be very painful. Try hand expressing or using your breast pump after breastfeeding your child. This will help remove more of the remaining breast milk and potentially free up the blockage. It’s very important to empty your breast of its breast milk as much as you possibly can. Through treating your milk duct, they will get smaller over the period of ...a few days. If left untreated they can lead to bigger problems like mastitis. Always seek help that is available through lactation consultants or your physician to help remedy the problem. #nepabfc #pakpeds #pediatrics #pediatrician #pediatricians #breastfeeding #lactation #breastfeedingmom #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingsupport #lactationsupport #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingjourney #lactationconsultant #lactatingmom #baby #newborn #kingstonpa #pittstopnpa

RP @milknmamasbaby 6 Tips for Breastfeeding Success Ask for help, there is lots of it! Here at Milk N Mamas Baby we make sure our breastfeeding Mamas are provided with a host of resources available to them. Especially for the newbies.. When it comes to choosing a breast pump we make sure you are most familiar with the operation and benefits of using a breast pump. In terms of lactation support, we can help with this too! From the hospital to home there are so many ...viable resources for you Mama! Sit comfortable. The more relaxed your body is the better you respond to stimulating the flow of your breastmilk. Letting your nipples dry naturally after a breastfeeding or pumping session is OK. The milk can soothe your nipples. You can also gently pat your nipples dry. You can also wear breastfeeding pads inside of your bra for any leakage between feedings. When bathing minimize the amount of soap you use on your nipples. Lanolin can soothe cracked nipples and help your nipples to retain moisture. Rest as often as you can and nap if you can when your baby sleeps. Lack of sleep increases certain hormones such as cortisol which reduces your milk supply. Eat nutritious meals. Your milk will meet your babies needs whatever your diet may be. However eating a healthier diet will make you feel better. Fuel your body and listen to your appetite . Counting calories is seldom necessary unless you are struggling to maintain a healthy weight. Keep in mind excessive dieting can reduce your milk production. Water... Stay hydrated. 90% of your breastmilk is water. When you are breastfeeding, you were hydrating both yourself and your baby. Research has indicated that nursing mothers do not need to drink more fluids other than what’s necessary to satisfy ones thirst. Medical experts say a normal consumption water is about 128 ounces per day. Drinking more fluids will benefit you as an individual and will surely give you a boost with breastfeeding. #breastfeeding #lactation #breastfeedingmom #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingsupport #lactationsupport #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingjourney #lactationconsultant #lactatingmom #baby #newborn

One of the many benefits of breastfeeding is that it boosts the immune system. Here's why! "Breastfeeding transmits elements of the mother’s own microbiome and immune system, providing probiotics to support the growth of beneficial bacteria and kickstarting a baby’s microbiota. The mother transfers her antibodies to her baby through breast milk, and this is particularly true of colostrum, the first milk." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #breastmilk #breastfeedingsupport #lactationsupport #lactationconsultant

Most experts recommend the COVID-19 vaccine to nursing moms. However, it's important to consult your physician first to weigh the benefits and risks. 'Because the vaccine is still new, we don't yet have much data specific to nursing mothers, says Nicole Calloway Rankins, M.D., MPH is a board-certified OB/GYN Physician, host of the All About Pregnancy & Birth podcast, and member of the Lansinoh Clinical Advisory Network. "But we have learned that overall the vaccine is very well tolerated with minimal side effects. We've also learned that the second dose of the vaccine is more likely to cause side effects like fatigue, muscle aches, and fever. These usually resolve in 24-36 hours."' #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #COVID19vaccine

Most moms who had breast implants can still safely breastfeed. If you had any complications with breast surgery, consult a doctor or specialist. "Most breast implants are made with saline and silicone gel. The materials won’t affect your baby if you choose to breastfeed and if you’re at all concerned you can speak to your doctor or a specialist at an antenatal appointment." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #lactationsupport #breastfeedingsupport

Did you know that your newborn baby can find the nipple on their own and start feeding? This is known as breast crawl and here's how it happens! "The breast crawl describes what occurs when a newborn baby is placed on their birth parent’s chest or belly immediately after birth and given time to find the parent’s nipple and begin to feed on their own. As long as your baby arrives healthy and vigorous, it’s safe for them to go directly to the birth parent’s chest and stay there... for the first few hours after birth." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #newborn

Feeling postpartum anxiety after a new baby? Don't feel bad! Postpartum anxiety can actually be helpful in adjusting to parenthood. However, it can be a problem if not regulated. Read this article for more info and tips. "Postpartum anxiety is a necessary and adaptive part of the human experience and should not be stigmatized. It has an important function, including showing us when parents need help. Part of that help must include social support, which we are less likely to p...rovide as a society if we call it a disease. It’s true that in a minority of new mothers and fathers that anxiety becomes dis-regulated and we call it clinical postpartum anxiety. But that just means that they need some help." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #breastfeedingmomma

Gas can be uncomfortable and even painful for babies. As their digestive systems are still immature, it's normal for them to need help getting gas out of their system. Here are some tips on how to help your baby. "Lying stomach down can help your little one to work the gas out. If your baby is not a huge fan of tummy time, you can also hold them in a football hold. This means laying them face down along your arm, and cradling the side of their head in your hand while their legs straddle your elbow." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #breastfeedingmomma

When your baby reaches 6 months, their sleeping routine usually becomes more consistent and easier to schedule. Here's how to establish the best sleep schedule for your baby. "While infants often call the shots when it comes to their sleeping hours, putting your baby down for their naps and bedtime at the same time every day will definitely help establish a routine. Generally, babies of this age will be on a rotating schedule that includes, sleep, feeding, and playtime. As soon as your baby wakes up from their nap or sleep, they will want to feed, and then have some energy to burn off during playtime. If every day you're following the same schedule, your baby will adapt, and going to sleep will be much easier." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #breastfeedingmomma

Whether you're preparing for a new baby or are already nursing, these 21 tips can help with the breastfeeding process and solve common problems. "Worries about milk supply are incredibly common, and can lead to a premature end to breastfeeding. Remember that breast milk is produced on a supply-and-demand basis. The more your baby and your pump demand of you, the more milk your body should provide. You want to encourage frequent and full feedings. If you’re planning on pumping... or want to build a stash you can also give power pumping a try." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #breastmilk

Exercising during pregnancy can help with breastfeeding and boosting its benefits! "Andrea’s healthy habits started before her baby was even born and now there’s evidence exercise may have had an unexpected payoff. Breastfeeding can take time to learn and get comfortable with. Read this mom's story on her breastfeeding journey and her tips for success! "It's very common for babies to cluster their feeding together during the day. Sometimes they want to feed 20 minutes apart. Sometimes it's a good 3 hours. One feed they’ll be stuck on that boob like glue for 30 minutes. The next it’ll be 5. In my experience, it is much better to just go with their cues rather than watch the clock. If you...’re feeding on demand your body will adjust to exactly what your baby needs." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #breastfeedingjourney #lactation

Be careful of high sugar consumption during pregnancy and breastfeeding as it can affect your child's cognitive development. Read this article for more info: https://bit.ly/3m0ADMW "Moms who reported greater consumption of sugary beverages and juices had children with poorer cognitive development scores. The researchers speculated that added sugar from the mom's diet was passed to their infant through breast milk, and this exposure could conceivably interfere with brain development." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation

A supportive bride was happy to let one of her bridesmaids pump during wedding pictures! "Parents who commit to exclusively pumping know that sticking to a schedule is everything. So when Allison Hepler agreed to be in her best friend Rachael Downs's wedding on Oct. 25, 2019, she had her pumping sessions planned down to the second. But of course, plans often go awry - especially during weddings - so when Allison was asked if she'd be comfortable posing for a photo with her breast pump in tow, she didn't flinch. Thankfully, photographer Amber Fletcher captured the perfect shot, and it pays homage to parents everywhere." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #pumpingmoms

Intermittent fasting while breastfeeding may not be a good idea as it can suppress milk production. If you're trying to lose weight, there are other safer ways to do so. Read this article for more info. "Don’t rush to lose the baby weight, give your body some time to recover from childbirth. Doctors recommend waiting until your 6-week checkup before trying to slim down or until your baby is at least 2 months old if you’re breastfeeding. Aim to lose weight slowly and steadily, about a pound a week." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation #breastmilk

Many parents focus on the number of minutes their baby breastfeed and the number of minutes between each feeding session. However, the most important thing to focus on is how many times each day your newborn breastfeeds. Read this article for more info. "How many minutes should a baby breastfeed? There’s not a simple answer. Just like adults, some babies are fast eaters and others are slow eaters. The number of minutes your baby feeds does not tell you anything about how much... milk he consumed. On average, it takes most newborns somewhere between 5 and 55 minutes to finish a breastfeed. Both fast and slow nursers usually have periods of wide jaw movements along with some pauses. Over time, most babies get faster and more efficient at breastfeeding, so as they grow, the slow eaters usually speed up and get the same amount of milk (or even more milk) in less time." #nepabfc #breastfeeding #lactation
