Sometimes we take eating local to another level here. Yes those eggs are from our chickens and that squash and spinach are from our fields, but have you ever eaten out of a locally sourced oven? Clay dug from down the road, rocks dragged up from the Aughwick, straw from the Horton barn all mixed and thrown by the hands of farmer Jenni. Can’t forget to mention the door is made from last years tomato stakes. Sure is efficient too! Wren can comfortably hug the outside of the oven while the inside of the oven is 600+ F ; perfect for cooking pizza and anything else we can throw into it.
We will be at Sheridan School this afternoon from 3-7! Come stop by and get something delicious for your week!
Squash harvest in full swing means our own, hand-me-down, farm-made PPE. Maybe it’s all in our heads, but those squash stalks feel extra prickly on a rainy day. Come and get NMF zucchini, yellow squash, and patty pan at all our markets this weekend!
It’s official, strawberry and tomato season is here! Thank you to Chad Andrews at Andrews Orchards for these beautiful strawberries and Andrew Mack for the best tasting soil grown tomatoes in May! Don’t let the weather stop you from coming to market this weekend and bring home a piece of summer for your rainy day!... Our team along with a mountain of strawberries and tomatoes will be at Sheridan School and Chevy Chase Saturday from 8-1!
Busy, busy week on the farm. Pea picking, transplanting corn, harvesting, and cleaning up from the early spring crops. Newsletter: http://mailchi.mp/b605aa825d68/june-farm-journal-6100156
Eye-spy spinach so abundant we had to bunch it. Hope we can see y’all this weekend at the Sheridan School, Chevy Chase, and DuPont markets!
It’s the first week of our favorite sugar snap peas! Part of the reason they are one of the best early summer snacks is you can eat the entire pod! We will be at Sheridan and Chevy Chase markets on Saturday from 8-1 and Dupont circle Market on Sunday from 8:30-1:30... We hope to see you there!
Sheridan School, Chevy Chase, and Dupont Markets all open this weekend! As Seth says, "Happy market weekend to all!" The full newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/aeb98d0f5514/we-are-back-to-markets A pre-covid picture; We'll all be in masks this weekend, but the produce will be as beautiful as ever.
June has come early! Thanks to our neighbor growers, we'll have strawberries and tomatoes at Saturday Markets this weekend. On the farm we've been enjoying summer evenings in both field and forest, the cicadas are murmuring, and crops are vibrant! Full Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/686b1064c601/strawbs-and-toms
Wow, so much has changed in the last week. Here on the farm, fully vaccinated folks have been so happy to take off their masks, especially in the 85-90F weather this week. It feels great, but also a bit weird. At Saturday markets this weekend, we'll be keeping up our one way flow and social distancing, but masks are now optional for fully vaccinated folks(Sunday at Dupont policy has not yet changed) We're thankful that all our market workers are fully vaccinated. It's a huge weight off my mind. For the full update here's this week's newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/9cb7043bc/mask-and-safety-update-6094496
Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it’s field lettuce time Michael and Baldwin are here for their summer stay in PA. We’re happy the boys are back in (huston) town, and Michael couldn’t be happier to be harvesting his favorite crop: big, juicy romaine.
Thanks to the teamwork of our crew, and lots of row cover, our crops will likely survive the freezing night. The greenhouse is also full of transplants, ready to head to the field once the weather warms. Markets open next weekend! Mid-May on the farm means we are working hard laying lots of rowcover to make sure transplants like this baby sweet corn are staying warm through the night (we’ve had patchy frosts the past three nights!) Come visit us this weekend at market to seeall the veggies like this kohlrabi that have had their time under the remay and are ready for you to enjoy!
While spring greens are still going strong, we're switching to a red theme in the newsletter this week: https://mailchi.mp/[xxxxxx]/rhubarb-radish
The spring greens are just hitting their full stride. The lettuce and arugula are particularly luscious and tasty. We've been enjoying them naked, no dressing required! Newsletter link: https://mailchi.mp/2e4d4efdf0e3/spring-greens
