Why we will be voting yes. A message from our Executive Team. The past year has not been an easy one for anyone. Our business shut down in March of 2020, trusting it would only last 2 weeks to flatten the curve. We reopened our doors June 8th 85 days after they closed. In December, we followed the State mandate and closed again. Spooky Nook believes in participatory management because we think it’s important to empower our team members in the decision-making process. With...out this, we are not hearing all perspectives. Why should our elected officials operate any differently? After over 14 months of uncertainty and operational chaos, the importance of getting our economy back up and running cannot be overstated. We will be voting ‘YES’ so elected house members and senators can be a part of the discussion and decision-making after 21 days should an emergency declaration ever be needed in the future. "The Wolf administration justified its latest order by citing studies conducted by researchers at Yale University and collaboratively at Stanford and Northwestern Universities that linked restaurants with new COVID infections. The Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association, along with our partners at the National Restaurant Association, has previously pointed out flaws in recommending shutdowns based on such studies, which created mathematical models to project COVID infections and deaths. Such models collapse important differences among different restaurants’ mitigation attempts."

With everyone gearing up for a happy and healthy holiday season, we wanted to say 2 things to all of you: 1. THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our 12 days of giveaways! In March, we were told to close our doors for two weeks. They stayed closed to everyone for 82 days. Last night, we were told to close them again for another three weeks, with promises of reopening the first week of January. Truthfully, this has us at a loss. If we are in such an alarming state, why pick and choose who can stay open and who can’t? The decisions made, like the one to close businesses like gyms and restaurants but allow crowds of people to shop together, are no...t ones we’re able to wrap our minds around. For the record, we think they should all be open, but we struggle to understand the seemingly random selection process. While we are understandably weary of this action, we have made the decision to close our business to the public for this limited time and we plan to hold the Governor to his word and reopen January 4. This is not something we take lightly, but in doing so, we will be able to continue to pay and provide benefits to all of our fulltime salaried team members. Ensuring their lives are not impacted especially during the holiday season had to be our top priority. By minimizing our operational expenses, we can protect the livelihood of our staff. Physical exercise is a well-documented way to naturally improve mental health, increase serotonin levels, release endorphins, and combat stress. We wish the importance of this especially when considering the current mental health crisis would have been considered in this mandate. However, because that was not the case, we must do what is necessary for our team. Spooky Nook Sports has made the decision to postpone all sports-related activities for three weeks. Activities include, but are not limited to events, practices, sports specific training sessions, and private lessons. This change is effective 12:01am on December 12, 2020 and remain in effect until 8:00am on January 4, 2021. Any deposits or payments already made will be applied to the rescheduled date(s). We also want to thank everyone who reached out in the last 24 hours to voice their support and encourage us to remain open. This was not an easy decision, but a necessary temporary one. We will reopen Spooky Nook Sports at 8:00am on January 4. If we can ask one more thing of our patrons, it is to continue to support local businesses during these incredibly difficult weeks. Order takeout when you can. Buy gift cards to your favorite places. And most importantly, keep yourself healthy both mentally and physically. We look forward to seeing you after the holidays.
