What Causes Septic Tanks To Overflow? Inadequate Maintenance Septic tanks must be pumped out every three to five years to remove this sludge and prevent overflow.... Bacterial Deficiency Bleach, disinfectants and toilet cleaners kill the naturally forming bacteria needed to maintain your system. Clogs Tree roots can grow into broken pipes and cause clogs along with flushing wipes and foreign objects. Design or Installation Issues Waste pipes need the proper slope to drain effectively. Also, if the wrong piping and or fittings are installed overflows will occur. So be sure to have your system designed and installed correctly along with routine pumping to keep your system working properly.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THOSE FLUSHABLE WIPES AFTER THEY GO DOWN THE TOILET??? Wastewater operators and plumbers spend countless hours digging up flushable wipes from blocked sewers. Hours of snaking sewers dragging up soggy clumps of wipes then pulling the wipes off the end and then starting over again. Flushable wet wipes, baby wipes, cleaning wipes and pre-moistened towelettes are everywhere? These wipes are labeled non-flushable, flushable or septic safe. The problem is peo...ple flush all kinds of these wipes down the toilet regardless of what the label says. Although they go down the toilet OK when flushed, they can get caught in a bend in the pipe and then start collecting until a clog forms. Once a clog forms the debris starts backing up and toilets start overflowing. Now a plumber is needed, and you end up spending a couple hundred dollars. In public sewers these clogs can push out into the sewer main and block the sewer system affecting many homes and businesses and cause manholes to overflow into the streets. If the clogs makes it into the public sewers and into the treatment facility it will damage wastewater equipment. Thousands of dollars a year is spent on repairing wastewater equipment at treatment facilities. So, the point here is please properly dispose of those wipes!!!
