Post-laminectomy pain syndrome (PLPS) refers to a subset of patients who have new or persistent pain after spinal surgery for back or leg pain. The pain can be reduced but still present, or may get worse within months to years after surgery. PLPS causes may include advancing degenerative changes or due the buildup of scar tissue around spinal nerve roots, along with persistent tissue pain and muscle spasm. The term refers to a condition of continuing pain following a technical successful surgery. Piriformis syndrome is characterized as severe pain that spreads from the back or buttocks to the leg, calf, and foot. This condition is caused by compression of the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle. Therefore, patients with piriformis syndrome may have trouble sitting for long periods of time. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK448172/
