Memoir (non-fiction) writing can be intimidating if you don’t know how or where to start. Donna will help students learn and practice the fundamentals of memoir writing, whether it be for a future personal essay or for a full-length book. Meet Henry Gepfer. Henry Gepfer is an artist, educator, and curator from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Henry’s work has been shown nationally and they have been an artist in residence with Zygote Press in Cleveland, OH, Sparkbox Studio in Picton, Ontario, and (very soon) The Wassaic Project in Wassaic, NY. Lithography is a popular printmaking process with a rich and storied history. Unfortunately, it has usually been known to require access to cumbersome materials and equipment. In this two session workshop you will learn a low-tech approach to adapting this unique process using mostly food-based materials (like cola and vegetable oil) to make printed multiples from the comfort of your home kitchen or studio. Meet instructor, Salina Almanzar. She is an artist, writer, educator, and social justice advocate. Salina is from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Franklin and Marshall College where she is also an instructor. She was elected to the School District of Lancaster School Board and is the youngest and first Puerto Rican elected to the board. Salina also serves as a teaching artist in Lancaster City parks through Lancaster Public Art. Her ability to listen, empathize, ...develop solutions, and implement plans is evident in her life's work and are foundational elements of Design Thinking. Design Thinking is a way of approaching problems or opportunities that taps into the human at the center. In her course, students will walk through 5 principles or phases of Design Thinking Methodology: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. Though this method of work is often associated with engineers or companies like Apple, Google, Samsung and GE; Salina will also discuss Design Thinking as a praxis that can amplify collaborative art projects and provide a necessary foundation for artists interested in community based or socially engaged art.
