With the 4th of July approaching, here is some information on the use of consumer fireworks: Act 43 of 2017 allows citizens over the age of 18 to purchase co...nsumer fireworks. These are considered Class C fireworks, like firecrackers, Roman Candles, bottle rockets, and other similar fireworks with a maximum of 50 milligrams of explosive material. This does not include display fireworks, which contain more than 130 milligrams of explosive material or aerial shells containing more than 60 grams of pyrotechnic compositions. There are restrictions with the use of consumer fireworks. *****Consumer fireworks cannot be discharged within 150 feet of an occupied structure. Therefore, since most of the Borough of Pottstown is residential, consumer fireworks cannot be discharged in most areas.****** Consumer fireworks cannot be ignited or discharged on public or private property without the express permission of the owner. Consumer fireworks or sparkling devices cannot be ignited from or within a motor vehicle or building. Consumer fireworks or sparkling devices cannot be thrown into or at a motor vehicle, building or other person. Consumer fireworks or sparkling devices cannot be ignited by a person who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A person who violates any of these provisions while using consumer fireworks will be charged with a summary citation. In addition, please keep the Borough of Pottstown Noise Ordinance in mind: It shall be unlawful for any person to make, or cause or suffer or permit to be made or caused, upon premises owned, occupied or controlled by him or it or upon any public land, street, alley or thoroughfare in the Borough any unnecessary noises or sounds, by means of the human voice or by any other means or methods that generate or reproduce sounds which are prolonged, unnatural or unusual in their use, time and place, as to occasion physical discomfort or which are otherwise injurious to the lives, health, peace and comfort of the inhabitants of said Borough or any number of residents thereof.

We are asking all residents to refrain from flushing sanitizing wipes as these items are not compatible with our sewer treatment operations. As a reminder, do... not flush anything but human waste and toilet paper down the toilet. Other items will clog the sanitary sewer and cause problems in homes, businesses, sewer mains and at the wastewater treatment plant. Please do not flush things such as: Wipes Paper towels, napkins, and tissues Diapers Feminine hygiene products, etc. See more
