Thought I would do this early. I have joined the club where the celebration of Mother's Day has become different; its my first year. Oh yes, I so treasure the good and bad times. I smile and laugh more than I cry; AND I miss her. Mom was even a financial supporter of Precious Gems and 'mothered' many of our clients. So we honor her on this page.

Advanced Directives (Living Wills) No one wants to talk about this topic, but we must! DMX is reportedly in a vegetative state. He has no living will (as most people do not who are under the age of 50) AND he has 15 children. That means that there are FIFTEEN decision makers. To my social worker friends, can you imagine a family meeting with 15 immediate family members? I am not talking about extended family; wow. This means there will be FIFTEEN different opinions. The... staff will be overwhelmed and the wishes of the patient may be overshadowed. What is a Living Will? It is a written statement detailing a person's desires regarding their medical treatment in circumstances, in which they are no longer able to express informed consent. A Living Will goes into effect when YOU can no longer make decisions for yourself. As long as you can make those decisions, it is just a piece of paper. This paper helps your family know what you would want. IT HELPS YOUR FAMILY. The family does not have to guess. FEMA to Assist with COVID-19 Funeral Expenses If you know of families who have had family members transition due to COVID-19: Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.... FEMA is working with stakeholder groups to gather input on ways to best provide this assistance, and to enlist their help with outreach to families and communities. FEMA will begin to implement COVID-19 funeral assistance in April. Additional guidance is being finalized and will be released to potential applicants and community partners as soon as possible.
