"Significant health disparities due to systemic racism and implicit bias have always plagued our healthcare system. Marginalized groups, particularly people of color with lower incomes, are more likely to suffer from a lack of access to quality care. Nowhere is this more profoundly visible than in individuals experiencing homelessness." - Monica Medina McCurdy, PA-C, Vice President of Healthcare Services at Project HOME

Hailed as an unprecedented and miraculous act to battle homelessness, the federal government is awarding 863 housing vouchers to the Philadelphia Housing Authority by July 1, an allotment worth $10 million. Never before has the Department of Housing and Urban Development granted vouchers exclusively to people experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia, local experts on housing and homelessness said. Vouchers are traditionally given to people who are on a waiting list for housing, not all of them necessarily homeless.

The Grocery LifeLine is a new Project HOME program launched earlier this year to support our most vulnerable residents during the COVID crisis. Six months later, many residents are still sheltering in place to protect themselves while experiencing food insecurity. We’ve all had to adjust to new routines, adapt our daily errands, and prioritize the basic needs. Access to fresh groceries should not be one more thing to worry about. On your next trip to the grocery store or ...next click for online delivery, would you consider supporting a resident enrolled in the Grocery LifeLine? It only takes four simple steps: Step 1: Select a resident’s profile. You will receive a confirmation email with all key details; Step 2: Purchase (or order for delivery) items from the resident’s personalized grocery list; Step 3: If purchasing and delivering, please clearly label all bags with the resident’s last name and unit number. Step 4: Deliver (or direct delivery of) the groceries to the Project HOME resident within 5-7 days of your sign up. When arriving, please ring the front bell to enter the lobby. You, or the delivery person, can then leave the groceries with a staff member who will deliver the groceries to the resident’s apartment. Please note we ask that anyone arriving on site wear a face mask. TODAY will mark the end to Latinx Heritage Month, 2020. We would be remiss not to honor Philadelphia's own Gloria Casarez: American civil rights leader, LGBTQ activist and namesake of Project HOME's Gloria Casarez Residence. During the GCR Grand Opening (https://bit.ly/2SWtn8u) in May 2019, Former Exec Director of LGBT Affairs, Amber Hicks, stated: ... "May we always honor Gloria's legacy by lifting one another up, by pushing a little bit further, by fighting a little bit harder and by helping one another find the opportunity to truly feel at home." At Project HOME we honor Gloria's legacy daily and by celebrating her impact, we're grounded in our mission that none of us are home until all of us are home. See more

#TBT: On Tuesday we were selected to receive a uniquely special gift from a young hero in the Mak-A-Wish Program. When deciding what to do with his #WishDay, Ja'Bree chose us to use his wish to serve our city's most vulnerable. With the help of Wawa and Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware and Susquehanna Valley Ja'Bree was able to serve 300 meals at the Hub of Hope. We are eternally grateful for Ja'Bree's heroism and to everyone who made his wish a reality. #thankfulthursday #phillysupportsphilly #makeawishphl #heros
