Happy Employee Appreciation Day! I want to thank our Rodriguez Team personally. All the little things you do every day make a huge difference. Working together makes us successful, and it's wonderful knowing we can depend on each other to get things done. Thank you again!
Rodriguez is proud to share the excitement revolving around #NationalEngineersWeek - continuing on until Feb 26th, 2022. The event spans the whole week from February 20th-26th. We work to show educators, parents, and kids that there is so much to explore within engineering! Test yourself and try different STEM projects and challenges at home, and see how engineering effects us in everyday life! Enjoy the week, and visit the American Society for Civil Engineers website to learn about other activities and events. #engineering #infrastructure #philadelphia #civilengineering #rodriguez #illustration #education https://www.asce.org//virtual-meetings/engineers-week-2022/

While we tend to mostly talk about our engineers and surveyors, Rodriguez wouldn’t be nearly as successful without our Chief Administration Officer, Carol. Carol has been with us from day one! While we have had the opportunity to watch our company grow throughout the years, we’ve also watched Carol grow with us! Today, we wish Carol a very happy 60th birthday and are grateful for the impact she has on all of us at Rodriguez. Carol has been with us through it all and we are ...blessed that she has helped the company be what it is today. We are excited to continue to celebrate many more milestones with Carol! #philly #comics #birthday See more

Last year was an exciting time for Rodriguez especially in regards to our land surveying department! Not only were we apart of some amazing projects that helped the betterment of our city, we also were able to make an impact in the surveying community as a whole! While @rodriguezuniv helped encourage and train a new generation of land surveyors in Philadelphia, we were also able to make a larger impact on the industry by speaking at the @delawareassociationofsurveyors annual... conference about the importance of career readiness and workforce development in the field. Entering 2022, we are excited to continue this momentum to create a larger and more inclusive land surveying workforce. Keep an eye out in the upcoming weeks for more information on some land surveying news that we are excited to share with you all! #stem #infrastructure #landsurveying #2021recap

The need for land surveyors is high! Lack of awareness about what land surveying is and lack of resources to join the field has prevented the workforce from expanding which is greatly impacting our industry. Because of this, it is up to all of us to encourage a new and diverse generation of land surveyors. ... Learn how you can help encourage growth in the field at @delawareassociationofsurveyors annual conference THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY! The conference is a great way to connect with industry leaders and help get involved with changing the industry! Additionally, look out for our CEO, @louis.a.rodriguez, who will be leading two discussions about workforce development and career readiness on Friday. The link to register is in our bio! In Memory of Shawn Popwell - We take this time to remember our friend, fellow surveyor, and a loving husband of Carol Popwell. Shawn worked as a Surveying Technician in New Jersey his entire career and loved the profession. He will be truly missed, and will always have a place in the hearts of his family, friends, and coworkers.
Key an eye out for our newly re-branded Rodriguez Toyota USA FJ Cruisers this summer. Thanks Brands Imaging for a job well done! #fjcruiser #newinfrastructureadventures
It's #drinkingwaterweek ! We at Rodriguez want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the staff at the Philadelphia Water Department and every water utility for providing us with reliable and clean drinking water. Our staff is proud to play a role in maintaining this essential infrastructure. #philadelphia #cleanwater #rodriguez
Please welcome our new staff members, Silvana Ditnes, David Bretz, and Corey Hospes! We are very happy to have them on the team and can't wait to share our projects and endeavors with you. #rodriguez #philadelphia #engineering
"What is a Watershed? A watershed is an area of land where rainwater and water from snow melting drains into a single body of water like a stream, river, lake, or ocean. A shower stall with a running shower head is a great example of something in your home that acts like a watershed. The running water hits the curtain and side walls and eventually runs down to and flows out of a drain. In urban cities like Philadelphia the rain falls on real surfaces (roads, sidewalks, grass yards), in place of the stall and the side walls of the tub are roads, sidewalks, parking lots, or even parks. The Philadelphia Water Department is committed to protecting and restoring our area's watersheds to ensure a healthy environment and a clean supply of drinking water." #engineering #water #philadelphia #rodriguez #rodriguezuni
Today at Rodriguez University we teamed up with PowerCorpsPHL to talk about Green Stormwater Infrastructure. GSI is a nature-based solution to water quality issues that urban stormwater runoff causes. Examples of GSI are green roofs, rain gardens, and planter boxes to name a few
At Rodriguez University we are discussing the different careers that our students can take. There's utility mapping, organizing the as-builts, surveying, and construction, just to name a few! The students are working on editing their resumes and cover letters to help prepare.
Here's a diagram to help understand what goes on under Philly's manholes. Engineers use this information to help determine how deep the manhole goes, the slope of the manhole, and the distance between one manhole to the next.
Today at Rodriguez University we learned about Sewer Covers and Grades. The grade of a sewer is also known as the slope. You determine the slope of the sewer by dividing the change in elevation with the distance between one manhole to the next.
Today at Rodriguez University, we learned all about manholes and how engineers measure their depth. To calculate this, you measure from the rim of the manhole to the very top of the pipe inside, called the crown, and the very bottom of that same pipe, called the invert. It is also important to note the elevation level of these manholes, when measuring more than one. The grade or slope tells us the change in elevation divided by the distance between the manholes.
Today at Rodriguez University we learned all about the inlets and sewers throughout Philadelphia. There are different types of inlets, such as city, highway, and open mouth inlets. They are all crucial to the regulation of storm water and sewage flow from all the homes and neighborhoods of the city. Please remember not to put trash into these inlets, they flow right back out to our rivers, and can become clogged and cause damage!
Today at Rodriguez University we learned about sewers and how Philadelphia treats waste water. There are 164 combines sewer systems in Philadelphia, and each one plays an important role in transporting the sewage from our homes to the treatment plants before it flows into our rivers.
Today at Rodriguez University, we continued our discussion on water mains and how to identify their location, size, and depth within the city streets. Through a process called "scrubbing" we scanned the entire plan for details that would help us define the different parts of the water main, such as valves, reducers, and the size of the main itself.
Today at Rodriguez University we began to brainstorm our goals for the future. What kinds of careers we would like to pursue and the steps we can take to get there. We broke down our goals into pieces and thought about how long it would take to achieve them, and how to keep climbing once we have. We will be working on creating our resumes and interviewing with Rodriguez engineers to get a better idea of what to expect in the field.
This week in Rodriguez University, students have been learning about water mains, manholes, and valves and how to identify them in the field. While analyzing as-build plans, they are learning how to compare them to the real world.
It's been rewarding to have been a part of this exciting #RebuildPHL project. Looking forward to get community feedback so we can finalize the design and move forward with rebuilding the Heitzman Recreation Center.
